Distribution Operations is an organization within Versant Media providing technical and operational services across the complete Versant content management, fulfillment, and distribution ecosystem. We ensure that each of our networks, shows, and unique content are reliably delivered to every screen around the world 24/7/365. We manage a best-in-class operation, leading the industry with our scalable, reliable operation. The Technical Operations' team in Englewood Cliffs, NJ manages playout and monitoring for Versant's Cable Sports, News, Entertainment, and International channels. The Operations Supervisors are true subject matter experts in a dynamic broadcast environment. Operations Supervisors drive 99.999% on-air reliability for all channels and work as a team to get compelling content to viewing platforms across the world.
Job Duties
- Supervise a shift of on-air cable operations for Versant networks (including all distribution channels) and streaming events.
- Monitor and maintain satellite, fiber, and terrestrial distribution, and cloud-based streams
- Ensure the reliability of on-air schedules in a fast-paced environment, and work to maintain 99.999% on-air availability and reliability for all channels
- Manage daily maintenance events in the NOC
- Ensure proper scheduling and supervise a shift of technical operators in live and taped events across Sports, News, & Entertainment channels.
- Facilitate day-of-air issue resolution between all Versant departments (including Sales Ops, Engineering, Programming, On-Air Scheduling and Promotions)
- Act as the point of contact to brand leaders to coordinate daily schedules and broadcast execution
- Lead operational triaging and documentation for issues affecting the on-air operation
- Develop and distribute detailed scheduling plans and transmission information for live events
- Maintain and assist in the creation of new SOPs and Guidelines
- Perform live event transmission tasks including video ipath routing, satellite tunings, fax-through and fiber bookings
- Lead the execution of live events on all Sports, News, and Entertainment networks such as Olympics, E! Red Carpets, WWE Smackdown, Golf, and Premiere League soccer
- Manage the execution and decision-making for all live events, including in-event issue resolution and off-air adjustments, including, but not limited to schedule slides, join in progress and leave in progress.
- Serve as decision-maker for the execution of all contingency situations for live events
- Serve as the point of contact for same-day Record/Turnarounds process to ensure reliable records and playbacks
- Assist with project management related to operational improvements
- Continue to exceed expectations in on-air reliability and customer service for all NOC clientele
Qualifications
Requirements
- 3+ yrs experience in an On-air broadcast environment.
- 3 yrs experience exhibiting overall understanding and knowledge of the television production process, broadcast operations, and news/sports/entertainment technical production requirements
- 3 yrs work experience showing strong computer, communication, and facilitation skills
- 3 yrs work experience in a fast-paced environment requiring troubleshooting and process skills, and exhibiting an ability to effectively lead, prioritize and adapt to changing scenarios
- A track record of meeting or exceeding performance expectations
- This position requires the willingness and ability to work any scheduled shift, including nights, both weekend days, and holidays, as well as working overtime on short notice to support the 24x7 on-air broadcast environment
Preferred Qualifications
- BA/BS in related field
- 3+ yrs experience related field
- 3 yrs experience in leading the execution of live television events
- 3 yrs experience demonstrating the ability to effectively lead, prioritize, energize, and coach others
- Extensive and significant experience, understanding and knowledge of digital broadcast and production technical systems, standards and processes
- Technical experience with cloud-based automation, real-time systems, digital video and audio, troubleshooting and test techniques
- Extensive knowledge of digital broadcast and production technical systems, standards and processes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic understanding of workplace staffing rules and experience in off-hours scheduling of personnel
