Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

You will develop and drive people strategies for Japan, covering multiple businesses including Content Group, TVD, UP&E in Japan. You will partner closely with key executives to cultivate an inclusive, positive, and productive workplace culture; identify, develop and retain talents; create and implement local employee experiences and learning & development initiatives. You will develop and maintain a strong relationship with partners in talent acquisition, executive search, compensation & benefits, employment law, etc. to drive high quality HR services delivery to business.

You will report to VP HR APAC, and partner closely with global HR community as well as business leaders in Japan.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategies

  • Partnering with senior leadership teams to develop key people strategies and objectives for the organization, ensuring that the HR initiatives and programs are clearly aligned with business priorities.
  • Participate in and be a thoughtful contributor at key senior management meetings and provide HR input for strategic business projects and long-term planning and budgeting processes.

Talent

  • Partner with TA team to ensure timely supply of quality talents to meet business needs.
  • Play a leading role in key HR processes including talent review, compensation, performance management, talent planning etc.
  • Help to identify learning needs, leveraging internal and external resources to deliver learning programs to support development.
  • Provide advice to business leaders, managers and employees on all matters related to employee and organizational development.
  • Ensure the delivery of corporate training initiatives.
  • Partner/collaborate with HR colleagues across NBCUniversal to drive projects and bring initiatives to fruition.

Change Leadership

  • Lead organizational change management process in response to business strategies.
  • Where required manage HR due diligence and transaction support for M&A or divestment activity, including integration and change management.

Employee Relations and Experiences

  • Provide HR leadership and coaching to employees, contractors, managers regarding employee relations issues. Ensure prompt and effective management of employee relations issues and grievances.
  • Offer guidance and counseling to employees, contractors and managers concerning work-related issues and work to resolve issues in a proactive and positive manner.
  • Manage and communicate HR policies; develop and implement HR practices and procedures aligned to meet the needs of the business. Ensure compliance with relevant local laws.
  • Work with leaders and employees to establish and maintain a positive work environment which encourages the full use of the organization's talents and abilities.
  • Create and execute on Employee Survey action plans and engagement and communications activities.
  • Ensure HR operational excellence in data management, HR systems, I-sight, payroll coordination, on-boarding, off-boarding etc. to enable a desired employee experience.

HR Team

  • Provide leadership and oversight of daily activities of local HR team.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to develop HR team's capabilities.
  • Engage and motivate the local HR team to drive positive feedback from business leaders and in role modelling collaboration with Global HR relationships.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be eligible to work in Japan.
  • Must be willing to travel for work related to business as necessary.
  • Must be fully fluent in English and Japanese, with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both languages.
  • Comfortable working in a global, matrix organization.
  • Thorough understanding and significant experience of employment law in Japan and experience in change management.
  • Ability to identify key priorities and execute on them.
  • Ability to influence and provide positive challenge to leadership.
  • Ability to operate as part of a Global matrix'd organisations.

  • Experience of operating at leadership level within a business(es), as a key member of the leadership team.
  • Demonstrates ability to interact with a range of personalities and styles and be able to establish effective relationships at all levels, responding effectively and timely to demanding internal clients and external partners.
