Sr Infrastructure/Platform Engineering Manager

You will work on cross-functional teams to build scalable systems for our government - designing, implementing, and delivering services that millions of Americans depend on. You care deeply about working on technology that improves people's lives, but don't think technology is always the answer. You are passionate about building large-scale systems that are inclusive, well-designed, fast, scalable, and secure, and you'll help set high standards for our teams in terms of simplicity, empathy, and accessibility.

The Infrastructure/Platform Engineering Manager leads and manages a team responsible for designing, building, and maintaining software development platforms for multiple multi-vendor teams. Your primary goals are to lead a team, to streamline and optimize developer productivity, platform reliability, and business alignment. Additionally, you will contribute to platform design, architecture, and implementation directly.

What You'll Do

Guide and develop a team of 15 platform engineers, by providing coaching, feedback, and growth opportunities, setting clear goals, managing performance, and ensuring accountability.

Foster a positive, inclusive culture, support employee well-being, and lead by example, while aligning team efforts with organizational goals, removing obstacles, and enabling the team to achieve results effectively.

Work closely with development, operations, security, and architect engineers to identify needs, incorporate feedback, and deliver scalable and secure platform solutions.

Contribute directly to the design, architecture and implementation of platform features and capabilities.

Manage platform engineering budgets, coordinate resource allocation, and optimize costs for cloud and on-premise infrastructure.

Define and enforce platform engineering standards, documentation, automated workflows, and compliance requirements.

Ensure thorough documentation and facilitate knowledge sharing across technical teams, promoting internal awareness and adoption of platform solutions.

Required Skills

At least 7 years in platform development, with at least 3 years in formal management roles, leading sizable technical teams and strategic initiatives.

Proven experience leading platform or infrastructure engineering teams, establishing strategic vision, and delivering robust platforms.

Advanced skillsets in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), automation, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools.

Ability to collaborate across technical and management teams, communicate complex concepts clearly, and solicit feedback for platform improvement.

Strong analytical thinking to address technical challenges, drive process improvements, and introduce new tools or methodologies as needed.

Understanding of security principles, risk management, and regulatory/audit requirements for platform engineering.

Other requirements include legal authorization to work in the United States, ability to meet any other requirements for government contracts, work authorization that doesn't require visa sponsorship, and may be subject to a government background check or security clearance, depending on the contract.

Perks working with Nava include health coverage, insurance coverage, time off, company holidays, annual bonus, parental leave, wellness program, virtual care, sabbatical leave, 401(k) match, flexible work, home office setup, utility support, learning opportunities, development opportunities, referral bonus, commuter benefits, and a supportive culture.
