Security Officer

Patrols, monitors, and secures assigned areas, patients, visitors, and employees to ensure safety and security.

Key responsibilities include: dispatching security officers and coordinating response to incidents, alarms, and requests for assistance; monitoring surveillance and security systems; identifying and reporting suspicious activity; maintaining accurate and detailed logs, incident reports, and records of communications; and fielding parking, shuttle, and badging calls.

The schedule is 1:45pm-10:15pm for full time, benefits eligible positions.

Location is 611 E Livingston Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43205, United States.

Essential functions include performing random and frequent patrols on foot, motor vehicle, or bicycle, monitoring security cameras; intervening in interpersonal conflict or criminal acts safely and effectively to maintain order; conducting preliminary investigations and reporting criminal, safety, and security incidents; responding to and providing assistance in emergency situations and internal disaster incidents; performing staff and visitor escorts or transportation, vehicle assistance, and "lock/unlock" activities; enforcing hospital parking policies and procedures; and responding safely, effectively, and efficiently to all related matters.

Education requirement is a high school diploma.

Licensure requirement includes a valid Ohio driver's license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy and position-specific requirements. Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children's Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.

Skills include the ability to read and comprehend hospital/departmental policies and procedures, criminal statutes, and regulatory publications; successfully conduct preliminary investigations and document findings on standard departmental or hospital forms; effectively interact with all persons, regardless of position, ethnicity, sex, age, or economic status; consistently and equitably enforce the policies of the department and hospital and the ability to effectively intervene in interpersonal conflict; and write legibly.

Experience includes a 4 to 6 week training cycle on the floor and in a classroom setting, under the supervision of a Senior Officer, working multiple shifts and locations for familiarization and experience and learning physical intervention and verbal techniques. Officer will be required to complete the IAHSS Basic Security Officer training within the first six months of being hired at the officer's expense. Once the officer has successfully completed the training, the Security Department will reimburse the officer the cost of the test.

Physical requirements include occasionally bending/twisting, exposure to blood and/or bodily fluids, climbing stairs/ladder, cold temperatures, communicable diseases and/or pathogens, flexing/extending of neck, hand use: grasping, gripping, turning, hot temperatures, lifting/carrying: 0-10 lbs, 11-20 lbs, 21-40 lbs, patient equipment, pushing/pulling: 0-25 lbs, 26-40 lbs, reaching above shoulder, squat/kneel, working at heights; frequently computer skills, depth perception, driving motor vehicles, repetitive hand/arm use, sitting, standing; continuously audible speech, color vision, decision making, hearing acuity, interpreting data, peripheral vision, problem solving, seeing – far/near, walking.
