Job Description Summary
Direct management of profitable growth performance for assigned region. In addition to achieving the profit and growth numbers, this role is responsible for establishing the strategic vision for the assigned region that will sustain success into the future. The management of the agency force and associates is critical to the continued success of the operation. Responsible for the oversight and direction of the distribution capacity and sales effectiveness, competitive position and customer retention within the region.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to SVP, PL Sales & Distribution
Regions are comprised of Regional Sales (IA/EA), Staff/Sales Operations. Amount of direct/indirect reports vary depending on size of operation/regional accountability. Role oversees extended regional leadership team members (underwriting, product, marketing, legal, human resources, finance, communications, etc.).
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Develop, sponsor and lead key initiatives to achieve profitable growth objectives. Primary measures of success: total revenue and market share growth, TCR, NOI, CEM, associate engagement, agency engagement and productivity. Chief sales leader for brand in geography improving agent productivity, agency viability, and increasing relationships per household with members. Cultivate strong agency relationships, leveraging industry and agency plant knowledge to drive targeted growth in key business segments.
Strategic thought leader for brand in geography – drive organizational, cultural and strategic change. Build/execute regional operational plan and ensure alignment with enterprise strategic direction and mission. Lead execution of corporate strategy for brand in geography including influencing public policy and industry practices around better and more strongly enforced home building codes. Key driver of providing an enterprise solution to agency force through collaboration of Nationwide companies (e.g., hub for bringing together NWAG, Life, Scottsdale, NNP…) to meet needs of agents. Product/pricing/promotion strategy specific to geography.
Develop and lead execution of distribution, product/pricing, and weather proofing strategies in geography – including CAT management. Attract, develop, and retain talent in geography. Create an engaging and positive work environment in region. Corporate citizenship leader for geography in community relations, board service and campaign leadership. Community and partner relations in geography (key national and local sponsor and partner organizations, such as NUL, NAACP, Farm Bureaus, large affinity partners, etc.). Communications leader for enterprise in the local markets for internal and external needs. Regulatory and public policy face of brand in geography managing key relationships including personal involvement in local PACs. Responsible for maintaining regulatory and legislative compliance/relationships and setting the regulatory and legislative agenda for assigned state(s). Performs other duties as assigned.
Breadth Across Enterprise
Role is directly accountable for Sales and Distribution within assigned geographic territory. Role is also responsible for collaborating with Underwriting and Product, Nationwide Financial, Strategic Partnerships and more to ensure appropriate execution of strategies within assigned geographic territory. Typical Skills and Experiences
Education: Undergraduate degree. Master's degree is preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: Professional insurance designation is preferred.
Experience: 15 years' industry experience. Operations orientation with broad understanding of P/C business. Management experience in two or more core P/C functions (underwriting, sales, etc.).
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong ability to develop relationships and work in partnership with other Regional Leadership Team members. Ability to lead without authority and a champion of collaboration.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
