Consultant, Compensation Administration

At Nationwide, our Corporate Compensation team understands the business and collaborates with our Human Resources partners and leaders to help the business grow. As a Consultant, Compensation Administration, you will be responsible for developing sophisticated compensation modeling and analytics tools for Human Resources (HR) systems. You'll collaborate with compensation consultants, HR partners and leaders to resolve data and information needs, and determine uses of information to help make business decisions in an understandable format. You will need to be agile and meticulous with an analytical mind, a passion for process improvement, and strong HR Information System skills. Key Responsibilities:

  • Functions as an expert in extracting data from Workday and other sources. Develops, produces and maintains ad hoc custom reports for information needs and analysis. Decides the level of information analysis needed based on customer needs and data availability.
  • Develops complex modeling and analytics tools, with high level of attention to detail, to advise and drive decision making. This includes blending data from Workday and other sources.
  • Serves as authority for key Workday system functionalities, business processes and configuration within Compensation, including user acceptance testing, system administration, troubleshooting, security, data extraction, tables, data warehouses and other sources in support of Compensation, HR and business processes.
  • Ensures the integrity and confidentiality of information in internal systems. Troubleshoots, analyzes, identifies and corrects technical problems and deficiencies.
  • Configures system functionality for annual compensation processes for associate salary planning and administration, executive compensation, short and long-range incentive compensation, job classification, compensation documentation and data management and ad hoc and standard compensation reporting.
  • Leads sophisticated, large scope projects with significant and long-term impact. Represents the company on task forces, committees and project assignments.
  • Serves as department specialist on querying tools, data flow and contiguous process improvement. Assists other associates with preparation of reports and use of information systems, software and related sources of information. Trains other users on report preparation and data base access. Runs special projects, and serves as data/technical lead and contact. Project team typically consist of both team members and peers from other groups.
  • Presents impactful recommendations, presentations, reports and documents to help with the use of the information. Presents and discusses these findings with customers.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Director, Compensation Administration. This is an individual contributor role.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in multiple process subject areas such as technology, human resources, insurance or financial business processes preferred.

Experience: Typically, eight or more years of related experience in a business information analysis role or similar business related position that involves analysis, research, data analytics, problem solving, planning, coordinating and organizing. HRIS experience preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: In-depth knowledge of HRIS and/or other HR systems, business information analysis concepts, various data sources, policies and procedures. Familiarity with product terminology, processes, regulatory and compliance issues is preferred. Skilled in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Access, required.

Analytical and problem-solving skills required. Attention to detail a must. Must possess very good verbal and written communication skills. An ability to work under significant pressure and meet targets. Able to process complex information and determine solutions that meet both internal and business partner requirements with minimal direction. Ability to handle ambiguity and fluid situations, demonstrating a pragmatic approach, and resolve requests in a timely manner.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and HR Business Partner.

Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (Exempt).

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Occasional travel. Non-standard or extended work may be required based on project needs.
