Kitchen Supervisor
The Kitchen Supervisor oversees the student dining operation, serving breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday and occasional weekend meals. Other responsibilities include menu planning, ordering, inventory, HACCP, and teaching culinary standards to staff. The successful candidate will be quality focused with the ability to increase student meal participation while controlling costs.
This position supports the Nome School District in Nome, AK. Candidate must live or be willing to relocate to Nome, AK.
Responsibilities
- Directs a high quality, cost effective, general kitchen and food preparation operation.
- Collaborates on variety of balanced, attractive menus including National School Lunch Program compliant menus.
- Maintains excellent customer and employee communication and relations to continuously improve the quality of services provided, resolve issues, and facilitate the acceptance and implementation of new services.
- Directs, schedules, trains, supervises, evaluates, coaches, and develops assigned personnel to keep them informed and motivated.
- Make sure the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all assigned employees are defined and understood.
- Ensure all food and kitchen safety processes are followed.
- Perform all types of food production and preparation duties, and fills in for absent employees, to support daily meal service.
- Responsible for placing and receiving orders.
- Performs various inventory and quality control tasks as well as completes various inspection checklists.
- Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success also may be assigned.
Qualifications
- At least three (3) years of documented food service supervisor experience in a K-12 or similar culinary environment.
- Prior experience must evidence supervisory skills and knowledge of food preparation, and quality control procedures.
- The ability to operate basic office equipment and software programs to include email, Excel, Word, etc.
- A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preference will be given to individual with a minimum of five (5) years of consecutive employment in similar operations with comparable responsibilities.
- ServSafe Certified Manager certificate.
