Rehabilitation Services Manager

This position is responsible for the maintaining the daily operation of the designated Rehabilitation Services department(s) with responsibility for program planning and budget. Provide patient care within scope of practice for designated discipline. Clinical activities of this position are patient focused and utilize assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in accordance with physical therapy standards, physician orders, and governing policies and procedures. This position delegates responsibility to clinical and ancillary staff as appropriate.

(85%)* If a PT/OT or ST = Evaluates the patient’s function by performing formal/informal testing measures specific to discipline scope of practice. Develops a goal specific treatment regime based on assessment data and the patient’s tolerance to carry-out the treatment plan as prescribed within scope of practice. Within scope of practice: submits a written treatment regime to be included as part of the plan of treatment authorized by and coordinated with the physician, updates plan of care as needed to reflect changes in patient status, co-signs verbal orders received by physical therapist assistant or certified occupational therapist assistant as necessary. Devises a schedule of treatment, which is frequency and duration specific to be discussed with patient/family/caregiver and coordinated with clinical support staff within scope of practice.

(10%)* Maintains positive rapport with physicians, insurance carriers, universities, local community members such as businesses and service organizations, and others to promote MyMichigan’s rehabilitation services and build positive relationships.

(5%)* Markets MyMichigan rehabilitation services to physicians, affiliates, other healthcare providers, businesses and educational institutions and patients using quality management techniques.

Other duties and responsibilities:

Educates patient, family, and/or caregiver regarding pathology or condition, patient alternatives, prognosis, and rationale for treatment through forms of rest, exercise, modalities, and other indicated interventions.

Provides supervision for clinical and ancillary staff including delegated patient care within scope of practice.

Recommends adaptive/supportive equipment based on assessment; contacts appropriate representative and/or supplier to place order and assists in securing equipment for patient.

Coordinates on-going process improvement for department(s).

Schedules clinical and ancillary staff as needed to ensure appropriate staffing for patient care needs.

Orders supplies and equipment as needed.

Completion of pay roll for all staff including adjustments to pay management correction as needed.

Provide monthly summary reports to manager/director updating activity from departments. Completes patient/visitor variance reports, employee incident reports, and sick call reporting.

Attends and facilitates appropriate meetings with healthcare system.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Credential: REHABLICEN: Rehab Services Licensure

Equivalent Experience: For Physical Therapist (PT): Graduate of a physical therapy curriculum approved by the American Physical Therapy Association. For Occupational Therapist (OT): Completion of Bachelor of Science or Masters of Science in OT. For Speech Language Pathologist (ST): Completion of Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited university and have received certificate of Clinical Competence. For Physical Therapist Assistant: Completion of an Associates Degree from an approved curriculum by the American Physical Therapy Association.

Required Education: Bachelors Degree

Clinical experience in the field of physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech therapy; policies and procedures as normally acquired through two (2) years clinical experience working in a Medical Center or similar setting. Knowledge of rehabilitation techniques in area of expertise per state and or/professional association requirements.

Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

Successful completion of MyMichigan Health and affiliate specific orientation. Successful completion of new hire competency.

Interpersonal skills needed for effective verbal and written communication in the English language to interact with people individually and in a group at all levels.

Ability to work independently, demonstrating problem solving and organizational skills, time management skills and initiative.

Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)is required and must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.

Ability to work where employee may be exposed to communicable diseases. Ability to use personal protective equipment correctly.

Ability to perform essential job functions with reasonable accommodation.

Ability to demonstrate and teach selected treatment routines to appropriate professional and non-professional individuals.

For Physical Therapist (PT): APTA membership preferred.

For Occupational Therapist (OT): AOTA and MOTA memberships preferred.

For Speech Language Therapist (ST): ASHA membership preferred.

Physical/mental requirements and typical working conditions:

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.
