Audio Video Design Engineer

Musco's Insane Impact Team has an opening for an Audio Video Design Engineer at our Des Moines office. If your experience aligns with the qualifications outlined below, we look forward to hearing from you!

Essential Criteria:

  • 2+ years of experience in AV system design, engineering, or drafting
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Vectorworks, or other CAD software
  • Strong understanding of AV signal flow, rack layouts, networking, and power distribution
  • Experience designing low-voltage AV systems (LED displays, video processors, control systems, audio integration)
  • Familiarity with mobile/portable AV systems or event production AV is preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, architectural/structural plans, and technical specifications
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong problem-solving skills with a flexible, team-oriented attitude
  • Basic understanding of power systems, generators, and temporary AV setups for live events
  • Experience using NetSuite, SuiteProjects, Asana, or other project management tools
  • Familiarity with Novastar, Daktronics, or other LED control systems is a plus

Roles and Responsibilities:

Fixed Installation AV Design:

  • Develop comprehensive project submittal packages, including precise LED layouts, detailed AV schematics, and efficient rack designs for fixed installations
  • Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure accurate integration of structural and electrical specifications
  • Efficiently complete installation submittals and shop drawings, maintaining a strong focus on both speed and quality
  • Incorporate site condition changes and Project Management feedback to revise shop drawings effectively

Mobile LED Trailer AV Systems:

  • Design integrated AV system packages for custom LED mobile trailers, encompassing optimized rack layouts, clear control diagrams, detailed wiring schematics, and comprehensive signal flow documentation
  • Develop trailer AV packages, adeptly integrating both standard and specialized component configurations
  • Coordinate effectively with trailer fabricators to ensure seamless AV integration that aligns with structural design parameters

Collaboration & Peer Review:

  • Actively participate in weekly peer review sessions, providing constructive feedback on AV schematics, layouts, and trailer designs
  • Incorporate insights from internal design reviews to continuously elevate drawing quality and engineering standards

Special Projects / Internal Initiatives:

  • Support internal Research and Development efforts, specialized fabrication projects, standards development, or workflow improvement initiatives as assigned
  • Contribute innovative ideas for process enhancements, equipment research, and advancements within the AV and mobile LED fields
