Design Engineer
We believe the best user experiences happen when exceptional design and engineering push each other forward. We're looking for a Design Engineer to help us scale best-in-class UX to almost half a million learners.
Design engineering is a spectrum—we welcome design-minded engineers and code-curious designers. You'll work on our design system and other foundational frontend initiatives, with the freedom to explore how new technologies (AI, agentic tools) can transform the way we build.
The Opportunity
You'll join a multidisciplinary team spanning brand, product design, and engineering. Our immediate focus: strengthening and evolving Multiverse's design system so our suite of applications is consistent, accessible, and performant at scale.
Beyond that, you'll explore how agentic workflows and AI-powered tooling can unlock new ways of working—helping teams prototype, experiment, and roll out changes across applications in minutes, not days. You'll shape how design and engineering collaborate, and help prove out the next generation of design engineering at Multiverse.
But Wait, What Do We Mean By "Agentic Design System"?
- We want to enhance our design system to a stage where changes can be made across our suite of applications in minutes, not days.
- We want to empower product and design to prototype and experiment without sacrificing quality through vibe-coded interfaces.
- We want to give our developers and designers best-in-class tooling so they can focus on building quality products for users.
- We see agentic tooling as an unlock to enable new workflows and developer experience in all of these areas. This team will define and prove out this new way of working.
Specifically You Will
- Build, evolve, and maintain our design system (React, TypeScript, Tailwind)
- Ensure our components are accessible, performant, and tested to production standards (observability, accessibility, responsive quality)
- Partner closely with designers to bring Figma concepts to production with high fidelity
- Collaborate with engineers to deliver best-in-class developer experience
- Prototype and test new workflows that leverage AI and agentic tools
- Mentor engineers and designers across the org to elevate front-end craft and adoption of scalable systems
- Contribute to our vision: enabling product and design to ship high-quality experiences faster, with less friction
About You
- 5+ years in design or frontend engineering roles, delivering production-quality UIs
- Strong in at least two of: Figma, React + TypeScript, or design system engineering (and eager to grow in the others)
- Experience building design systems in production: accessibility, performance, and sprinkles of delight matter to you
- Curiosity about AI-assisted workflows and how they might reshape design and development
- Skilled collaborator and communicator across design, product, and platform teams
- Bonus: experience building products for other designers or engineers
Benefits
- Time off - 27 days holiday, plus 5 additional days off: 1 life event day, 2 volunteer days, 2 company-wide wellbeing days (M-Powered Weekend) and 8 bank holidays per year
- Health & Wellness - private medical Insurance with Bupa, a medical cashback scheme, life insurance, gym membership & wellness resources through Wellhub and access to Spill - all in one mental health support
- Hybrid work offering - we collaborate in the office 3 days per week
- Work-from-anywhere scheme - you'll have the opportunity to work from anywhere, up to 10 days per year
- Team fun - weekly socials, company wide events and office snacks!
