This is a unique opportunity to be part of the team to open MultiCare's new Mary Bridge Children's Hospital. If offered a position into the training program, you will be employed as a full-time Central Service Technician Trainee. Upon completion of the training program and passing of the certification exam, you will transfer to a position as a Central Service Technician.

This is a paid training program. You will be compensated as a full-time employee for the duration of the program. Program participants will have a benefit eligible position after the appropriate waiting period.

The Central Service Technician works as a team member and is responsible for providing support to the total health care team at MultiCare Health System by cleaning, sterilizing, and packaging instruments, maintaining inventory, and transporting supplies and equipment. This position is a team member requiring a cooperative manner, working under direct supervision. Work situations are basically routine in nature yet require a service-oriented individual, organization of time and equipment, independent decision making in the execution of daily routine duties, and prioritization of multiple tasks. Internal contacts occur on a daily basis and may include patient care providers and Materials Management staff. External contacts are limited but may include patients, vendors, rental companies/agencies, other health care facilities, and physicians.

This position requires:

  • Constant standing and walking
  • Frequent physical demands requiring mobile dexterity to include bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, climbing, and reaching
  • Frequent exposure to chemicals associated with sterilization
  • Frequent lifting of up to 30 pounds, infrequent lifting of greater than 30 pounds

Central Service Technician Trainee Program Info:

  • 12-week program
  • Trainees will work 9:00am-5:30pm at Tacoma General during the course of the training program and in the months following the program until transitioning to Mary Bridge around May 2026.
  • Pay: $19.86
  • The candidate will sign a one-year work agreement, if hired. The work agreement requires trainees to stay with MultiCare once certified as a Central Service Technician for one year due to the investment in your education.

Time Commitment:

  • The program is 12 weeks long. There are no breaks for vacation/days off during the 12-week training.
  • Typical hours during the program are between 9:00am-5:30pm.
  • Hours after the program will vary based on the permanent shift the candidate is offered.

Position Summary

The Central Service Technician Trainee (CST) is a student enrolled in a Central Service Technician course of study program approved by MHS. The CST trainee will remain in this role until successful completion of coursework. The CST trainee is responsible for applying studied health concepts and performing routine duties to the level of academic competence accomplished in the individual's educational program(s) under the supervision and direction of a Central Service Technician.

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $20.07 - $28.87 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant's years of experience align.
