Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (TRS) is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing therapeutic and recreational programming in a licensed setting. This position also serves as the on-site lead during scheduled shifts, ensuring compliance with DHS licensing, providing support to clients and program staff, and maintaining a safe, person-centered environment. Mount Olivet Rolling Acres - MORA – is a diverse and inclusive nonprofit that has supported adults, seniors, and children with developmental disabilities, behavioral health needs, as well as age-related and chronic medical conditions for over 50 years in the Twin Cities metro. MORA provides an array of services: Adult Day Services, Contracted Case Management, Community Supports, over 30 Residential Homes, Respite, Therapeutic Recreation, Training for Guardians & Families, and Discover Summer Daytime Programming for Youth with Disabilities. Our Metro Crisis Coordination Program (MCCP) offers a safety net of crucial and cost-effective services for adults and children. Hourly Base Rate: $21.50-$25.00 DOQ $1,500 Retention Bonus for full-time staff paid out over 1 year. Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:30am-3:30pm day shift; no weekends
Key Duties & Responsibilities of the Therapeutic Recreation-ADS:
- Work with the lead staff to plan, implement, adapt, and evaluate individualized and group-based recreation activities (e.g., adaptive fitness, arts, music, games, sensory, leisure education).
- Coordinate activities to address participants' individual outcomes and functional abilities, in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members.
- Design and facilitate community integration outings promoting social inclusion and independent living skills, consistent with program and individual outcomes.
- Serve as the on-site lead for the shift: supporting and coaching program assistants and lead staff and ensuring client needs are met through regular check-ins throughout the building.
- Monitor client care, health, and safety procedures.
- Develop and communicate a daily staffing plan for the day.
- Ensure timely documentation of participant activity engagement, progress toward goals, incidents, behavior observations, and outcome metrics. Provide coaching to program staff in completing documentation and reports when needed.
- Work with the Therapeutic Recreation Manager to complete participant progress reports.
- Report to the interdisciplinary team any concerns regarding participants' emotional regulation, health status, or support needs.
- Support staff training in therapeutic activity protocols, adaptive techniques, care needs, behavior guidance, and documentation standards.
- Assist with facilitating staff meetings.
- Assist with transportation services as needed.
- Administers medications without errors
- Works harmoniously with and shows respect for employees, supervisors, vendors, and consumers.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, or related field required.
- Certified Therapetic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred, or eligibility to obtain CTRS certification. Familiar with Minnesota's 245D licensure requirements
- At least two years working in a day program or equivalent settings serving adults with IDD; experience leading direct support staff or as a shift lead preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, crisis support, and adaptive programming skills; ability to remain call in emergencies
- Must have a current, valid Minnesota driver's license.
- Department of Transportation Medical Examiners Certificate or able to obtain upon hire. Must be willing to submit to an annual check of driving record. Must have an acceptable driving record per company policy.
- Certified in CPR and Medication Administration or able to obtain upon hire.
- Must pass Department of Human Services background check and maintain "qualified" status. Must not be excluded from working in government health programs by the Office of Inspector General.
- Must be able to successfully complete the company's physical job demands document.
