Trauma Nurse Coordinator

Responsible for the promotion of optimal trauma care, data collection and injury prevention through the coordination of clinical activities, professional and public education, performance improvement and some administrative functions. Collaborates with medical staff, patients/family and the Healthcare team by assessing, facilitating, planning and advocating for health needs in selected trauma patients. Establishes goals and priorities consistent with the mission and goals of Rapid City Hospital as well as meets requirements of the Joint Commission, American College of Surgeons and other applicable federal, state, and local regulatory and/or accrediting bodies.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates an understanding of Performance Improvement and Injury Prevention. Utilizes Trauma Registry to develop and Lead a successful injury prevention program. Collects PI data for identified trauma indicators. Reports concerns regarding complications, quality of care or other performance improvement issues.
  • Accurately and efficiently collects and enters trauma patient data into the Monument Health Rapid City Hospital's Trauma Registry which includes but is not limited to: demographic data, dates & times, physiologic data, procedures, morbidity and performance improvement indicators as requested.
  • Assists with the development, assembly, revision and distribution of trauma committee minutes, forms, orders, manuals, reports, and policies as directed.
  • Assists in identification of patient and staff education needs, coordinates educational opportunities in trauma care, assists in maintenance of physician CME and maintains TNCC Instructor status.
  • Assists in organizing and leading professional outreach education programs (i.e. TNCC, ATLS, Trauma symposiums, in-services, etc.)
  • Performs ongoing assessment and monitoring of selected trauma inpatients to facilitate the coordination of care and ensure trauma services order sets and guidelines are utilized.
  • Assists with trauma patient care as requested (for example during Trauma Activations or on rounds) and functions as an expert practitioner in trauma care.
  • Assists in tracking patients through the trauma system: Pre-hospital, Emergency Department, Surgery, ICU, Medical/Surgical units and Rehabilitation. Promotes efficient, appropriate and coordinated care.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements:

Required:

  • Education - Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing
  • Certification - Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing

Preferred:

  • Education - Bachelors Nursing
  • Certification - Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Certification - Emergency Nurses Association (ENA)

Physical Requirements: Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
