Senior Optical Engineer
The Senior Optical Engineer will be joining the Optical Network Engineering team which is responsible for building and scaling Oracle's Optical Transport Network. The team is focused on engineering and development, as well as FOA deployment of optical transport solutions and systems. The successful candidate will have a direct impact on our top priority of delivering optical capacity and engineering solutions to support Oracle's cloud infrastructure to provide metro optical transport solutions in support of the needs of the network. To continue to drive down costs for equipment and services for metro and optics. To train other teams to deploy and operate optical systems. To provide operations support to ensure availability and uptime of the metro network.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead network lifecycle management programs by defining high-level objectives and delivery procedures.
- Organizes project technical milestones & supporting tasks and may work as project technical lead, coordinating effort of two or three engineers.
- Advises project/program manager and coordinates with immediate and skip-level leadership.
- Collaborates across teams within the same organization.
- Serve as technical SME in cross-functional activities.
- Has technical responsibility for moderately complex project(s), including project requirements, specifications (where applicable), and documentation.
- Responsible for decomposing high-level architectures into detailed designs.
- May lead the adoption of new vendor hardware.
- Responsible to drive technology to meet product and service requirements and actively communicate with product teams as needed.
- Participate in coordinated communication with product teams, networking leadership, and PMO to help assess gaps, solutions and needs.
- Serve as a technical lead on network automation design and delivery projects.
- Comprehensive understanding of the software development lifecycle.
- Provides a broad set of guidance to technical and senior technical members of staff.
- Interprets input from leaders (technical and managers) and provides focused development to junior members.
- Serves at Tier 3 or specialized escalation point for network events and provides break-fix support for large-scale events.
- Serves as principle point of contact for driving systematic resolution of complex network issues and act as Subject Matter Expert for root cause analysis efforts.
- Frequently develops scripts to automate non-traditional, complex tasks for business unit.
- Able to carry out technical coaching sessions, and helps junior members develop skills.

- A balance of strategic and tactical skills, with a high-level of intellectual agility and capacity for original thought.
- An outstanding communicator who can write, present, and effectively adjust messages to meet individual audiences and organizations.
- A consistent record to navigate and effectively collaborate with other groups and resources in large, sophisticated environments.
- Ten to fifteen years of industry experience, of which five or more years of relevant cloud experience.
- Possesses business insight: deep understanding of cloud technology, business and operations with the ability to draw from personal experience to make recommendations.
Qualifications include:
- 5-10+ years network infrastructure engineering in optics and optical.
- Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, Masters preferred.
- Experience with datacenter engineering cabling preferred.
- Product Lifecycle management a huge plus.
- Testing and Qualification background also a plus.
- Python coding and scripting is a big plus.

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $87,000 to $178,100 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
