Role Overview

We are seeking an AI Staff Engineer – Voice AI & Agentic Systems to serve as a technical leader and architect for Datavant's next-generation Voice AI and Agentic Agent platforms. This role goes beyond implementation: you will set technical direction, define architecture standards, and mentor engineers while building production-grade Voice AI systems operating at enterprise scale. You will own the design and evolution of LLM-driven, voice-first workflows across CCaaS, IVA, and internal automation platforms—ensuring they are secure, observable, compliant, and resilient. This role partners closely with Product, Security, Telecom/UCC, and Data teams to turn strategy into working systems.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Act as staff-level technical owner for Voice AI and Agentic Agent architecture across Datavant.
  • Define reference architectures, best practices, and design patterns for Voice LLM workflows, orchestration, and integrations.
  • Lead technical decision-making for build vs. buy, platform selection, and long-term scalability.

Voice AI & Agentic Workflow Engineering

  • Design and implement end-to-end Voice AI systems using LLMs, NLMs, NLP/NLU, STT, and TTS technologies.
  • Build agentic, multi-step conversational workflows capable of tool use, memory, escalation, and human handoff.
  • Optimize real-time and near-real-time Voice AI performance (latency, accuracy, reliability).

Platform & Integration Engineering

  • Architect and build API-first, event-driven systems integrating CCaaS platforms, data pipelines, and AI services.
  • Integrate with CCaaS and Voice platforms (e.g., Five9, Genesys, NICE, Cognigy, Kore.ai, PolyAI, or similar).
  • Ensure clean interfaces between AI agents, telecom infrastructure, and downstream systems.

Security, Compliance & Reliability

  • Partner with Security and Legal to ensure HIPAA, HITECH, and privacy-by-design compliance across all Voice AI workflows.
  • Implement observability, auditing, and reporting for AI decisions, conversations, and outcomes.
  • Design systems that are fault-tolerant, testable, and production-ready.

Mentorship & Cross-Functional Influence

  • Mentor senior and mid-level engineers in AI, Voice, and distributed systems design.
  • Influence roadmap and prioritization through strong technical partnership with Product and Leadership.
  • Raise the technical bar through reviews, documentation, and shared standards.

Required Qualifications

8+ years of experience in software engineering, with significant focus on AI, automation, or platform engineering. Deep hands-on experience with Voice AI systems, including: LLMs, NLMs, NLP/NLU Speech-to-Text (STT) and Text-to-Speech (TTS) Real-time conversational workflows Strong experience designing agentic or autonomous AI systems Proven expertise in API architecture, distributed systems, and integrations Experience with CCaaS / Voice platforms (Five9, Genesys, NICE, or similar) Strong proficiency in Python or another modern backend language (Node.js, Java, Go) Demonstrated ability to lead technically without direct authority Excellent communication and documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

Hands-on experience with AI orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, or similar) Experience deploying AI systems on AWS (certification a plus) Familiarity with telecom, IVR, call routing, and speech pipelines Experience with analytics, telemetry, and reporting platforms (e.g., Power BI, Fivetran, MuleSoft) Prior experience operating AI systems in regulated environments
