Lab Support Specialist
Brewer Science, Inc. is a major innovator of high-technology solutions for the semiconductor/microelectronics markets. We are currently seeking a purpose-driven candidate with an ownership mentality to fill an open position as a Lab Support Specialist (level I, II, or III). This position will be located in Rolla, MO.
Summary: The Lab Support Specialist provides critical operational support to laboratory functions by ensuring timely material readiness, maintaining accurate data systems, and streamlining documentation processes. Working closely with quality, production, and logistics teams, this role helps drive efficiency, compliance, and continuous improvement in lab operations. As levels progress, the role expands from task execution to leading system improvements, cross-functional coordination, and strategic planning across sites.
Responsibilities:
- Lab Support Specialist I:
- Perform raw material data entry into internal databases, maintaining accurate and traceable records to support material readiness and release.
- Assist in collecting, verifying, and filing specification sheets and documentation required for material approval processes.
- Monitor and review iButton data for storage condition compliance and escalate deviations to appropriate team members.
- Respond to lab-related administrative requests such as updating logs, tracking document status, and compiling records for internal use.
- Execute routine tasks related to material traceability and release documentation under supervision.
- Coordinate the physical movement and electronic tracking of materials between receiving, warehouse, and lab areas.
- Support internal data requests from the quality and operations teams by retrieving and organizing relevant material and system information.
- Participate in initial cross-training for lab systems (e.g., LIMS, document management platforms).
- Lab Support Specialist II:
- Same duties as Lab Support Specialist I.
- Review incoming material documentation and assist in preparing materials for system entry and release workflows.
- Track material movement and readiness within internal systems to ensure alignment with testing schedules and release timelines.
- Perform updates and maintenance to spec modules in coordination with quality engineers and database owners.
- Identify minor inefficiencies in lab operational processes and recommend workflow enhancements to supervisors.
- Serve as a liaison between the lab and warehouse/logistics teams for coordination of materials required for testing or qualification.
- Assist in maintaining organized material records in internal databases to ensure audit readiness and full traceability.
- Execute non-laboratory action requests (e.g., updating spec numbers, inputting label revisions, routing approval forms).
- Generate standard reports or dashboards to support internal status meetings or planning sessions.
- Assist with the testing and rollout of minor lab system updates or form changes in collaboration with IT or system admins.
- Support junior team members in learning basic system navigation and internal material routing processes.
- Lab Support Specialist III:
- Same duties as Lab Support Specialist II.
- Coordinate material readiness operations across multiple departments, ensuring timely release support and minimizing bottlenecks.
- Manage and audit workflows related to specification setup, data validation, and release tracking to improve turnaround and compliance.
- Drive updates to material tracking systems and LIMS workflows to improve data flow, reduce redundancy, and enhance user efficiency.
- Compile, analyze, and present data insights related to product release delays, material non-conformances, and operational cycle times.
- Provide operational support during tool qualifications, including data analysis and documentation alignment.
- Own the execution and maintenance of internal performance dashboards focused on lab throughput and CIP-related metrics.
- Collaborate with quality and production planning teams to prioritize material setup for key production schedules.
- Mentor junior team members in system workflows, escalation procedures, and release management practices.
- Support cross-functional meetings with quality, warehouse, and planning to ensure lab support aligns with broader operational goals.
- Lead documentation updates for workflows related to lab material processing and operational support systems.
Education and Credentials:
- Lab Support Specialist I:
- High school diploma or equivalent and minimum 2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Lab Support Specialist II:
- Associates degree in business, science, data entry, or relevant field or minimum 4 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Lab Support Specialist III:
- Associates degree in a relevant technical field and 2+ years of related experience or bachelors degree in a relevant technical field or minimum 6 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
