Research Medical Center is a 585+ bed hospital offering a range of services including emergency care with a Level 1 Trauma Center, a certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, and effective treatment for heart attack (Level 1 STEMI) and sepsis. Other specialized programs include traumatic brain injury, TIA, Grossman Burn Center, Gastrointestinal Center of Excellence, oncology care in partnership with Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute, 24-hour obstetrics ER, Level III NICU, Transplant Institute, Center for the Relief of Pain, orthopedics/sports medicine and much more.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Director of Surgical Services ensures high quality, patient-centered care through oversight of the overall function and staffing of the unit(s)/department(s) in addition to forecasting, planning, and budget monitoring. The Director fosters a culture of accountability and collaboration and supports the development and implementation of strategies, policies, and procedures in support of facility objectives.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Quality: Cultivates a superior clinical identity by identifying and implementing evidence-based practices to advance patient safety and quality outcomes. Ensures adherence to standards of care.
  • Service: Provides leadership in attaining and sustaining an unparalleled patient experience. Instills accountability for providing consistent, positive patient interactions that differentiate the organization as a healthcare leader.
  • People: Fosters a culture that inspires commitment to the vision/mission/values of the organization. Ensures employees are recognized, valued, and supported.
  • Growth: Collaborates with administrative team and physicians to enhance existing services or develop new service offerings.
  • Finance: Participates in the annual budget process, including input into department revenue and expense forecasts, staffing, and supply and equipment needs. Monitors department budget performance; identifies trends and evaluates variances in relation to established budget.
  • Other: Performs other duties as assigned. Practices and adheres to the "Code of Conduct" and "Mission and Value Statement."

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or other approved education plan Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Preferred
  • Master's Degree Preferred
  • 1+ years applicable experience Required
  • 3+ years applicable experience Preferred

Research Medical Center is a 585+ bed hospital. Our hospital offers an array of medical and health clinic services. This includes women's services offering obstetrics and fertility, an emergency room, and a trauma center. We offer a Stroke Center, a walk-in clinic, and orthopedics across three Kansas City locations. Our specialty care areas include a Chest Pain Center, Level I Trauma Center, Breast Care Center, Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Programs, and Primary Stroke Center. We are one of 10 HCA Midwest Health hospitals in Kansas City and surrounding areas.

Research Psychiatric Center is a 95+ bed facility. We offer acute inpatient, day treatment, and community-based outpatient behavioral healthcare.
