Job Opportunity

This position is responsible for a variety of intermediate to complex level technical activities. Uses advanced knowledge of engineering concepts, processes, and tools to complete and ensure compliance of various project subtasks. Gathers data, conducts tests and experiments, sets up and operates equipment, builds prototype units and testing equipment. Maintains and calibrates standards and equipment and devises new testing methods.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Setting up test equipment, monitoring and measuring instruments.
  • Performing testing on breadboard circuitry, prototype units, production units, and electronic circuitry.
  • Supporting technical bench and field setup, deployment, retrieval, and repairs with travel to remote site areas as required.
  • Building prototype units for testing and experimentation and making samples for further analysis.
  • Conducting tests and experiments with new materials, equipment, and processes to develop data for specification call-out or to determine suitability of a material for particular applications.
  • Gathering and evaluating data for validity, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Locating and correcting malfunctions in product and testing equipment.
  • Performing post-mortem analyses to determine exact reasons for failure.
  • Performing chemical processing and mechanical evaluations as applicable.
  • Making sketches and marks up drawings as needed to show changes as they occur.
  • Maintaining appropriate primary and secondary metrology standards, test laboratory equipment or control consoles and associated monitoring, measuring, and recording instruments.
  • Drafting calibrating and operating procedures based upon comprehensive knowledge of product and testing equipment.
  • Calibrating equipment, instruments, electrical/electronic standards and standards of mass, force, dimension, and other phenomena during or after maintenance, and on regularly scheduled calibration dates.
  • Recording laboratory notes and other details, as specified by engineering personnel.
  • Supporting activities identified by management/engineering to maintain equipment in a reliable efficient manner.
  • Working with engineering to establish test techniques for new product during development and to resolve product or equipment problems.
  • Improving and refining existing fixtures, devices, methods, process steps or procedures, implementing changes as necessary.
  • Providing technical direction and training to other technologists and hourly employees to include task or project lead duties.

You Must Have:

  • 4 years relevant experience or 2+ years experience in a related technical role plus 2-year technical degree or 4-year technical degree.
  • Some positions within this classification may require unique electrical, mechanical, chemical processing, and/or electronic skills and abilities.
  • Ability to travel as determined by the needs of the business.
  • Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • United States Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
  • We Value:

    • Metallographic sample preparation skills.
    • Experience with optical microscopy equipment and software, lean manufacturing, and/or tooling and fixture design.

    • Experience working with engineering equipment and measurement tools.
    • Ability to find effective solutions based on root causes and apply six sigma procedures.
    • Good interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively with other individuals in a team or project setting.
