Career Services Student Worker

The Career Services Student Worker will provide career development services and resources to Minneapolis College career and technical students and faculty. The incumbent will help career and technical students explore who they are, gain experience in the workplace, and prepare for a successful job search. Services include: major/career guidance; occupation exploration; preparation for informational interviews and networking opportunities; internships, volunteer, and employment assistance; resume and cover letter help; and interview preparation/tips. This individual will help with a career and technical project-based internship program while participating in any CTE industry specific events.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Meet with career and technical students to provide services and resources regarding career development and employment
  • Instruct career and technical students on how to use the Minneapolis College Job Bank
  • Prepare and provide career and technical workshops and industry specific events that correlate with the campuses schools/programs for students wanting to learn various career related topics
  • Build career and technical student resources by researching and contacting nonprofit, for profit and government sector employers. Create and manage Career Services social media platform to engage and increase career and technical users of the platform
  • Compile, analyze, and present data to evaluate career and technical programming and various services offered through the Career Services
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least two to three years of post-secondary education and must be in good academic standing
  • Must be enrolled at a credit granting institution or at a non-credit granting institution and must be carrying at least six semester (nine quarter) credits
  • If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, the student must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter
  • Interest in working directly with students and learning about Minneapolis College Career Services programming and services
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including written, oral, and electronic
  • Proficient in computer technologies, including Microsoft Office Suite, email communication, online databases, and internet research
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to set priorities, balance a workload, adhere to a schedule, and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrates an ongoing understanding of cultural fluency, incorporates culturally responsive practices, and actively engages in antiracism professional development learning opportunities

Other Requirements

Must be in good standing with Minneapolis College. Position may be eligible for partial telework per Minneapolis College's telework guidelines.

Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)

Monday - Friday, between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Hours are flexible based on school schedule.
