Bookstore Operations Support Specialist

This role supports both the operational and customer-facing functions of the campus bookstore. The position ensures smooth and accurate purchasing, inventory control, and accounts payable processes while also providing exceptional service to students, faculty, staff, and vendors. From processing purchase requisitions in the Minnesota State Workday system to reconciling financial records and assisting at the register, this role is essential to daily store operations and long-term business success.

Salary Range: $20.76-$27.53

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Skill in accounting/budgeting/expense reporting sufficient to use a computerized point-of-sale (POS) accounting system for budgeting, revenue reporting, inventory, and procurement.
  • Standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases sufficient to create, modify, and protect files
  • Provide prompt and accurate information to customers in person, on the phone, and through email and other written or electronic correspondence Ability to collect payments, count money, and complete transactions for customers
  • Present information to diverse customers.
  • Use computerized inventory management software system and applications to maintain an accurate inventory

Preferred Qualification:

  • Two-year degree in related field
  • Experience in a retail environment and has the ability operate a cash register, calculator, card reader, and pricing equipment.

  • Knowledge of and understanding of Workday, MinnState Purchasing processes.
  • Knowledge of State of Minnesota-specific computer systems and software programs including Workday and Advanced Retail Center (ARC).
  • Ability to organize, multi-task and quickly adapt to changes in policies, processes, procedures, and priorities, and ability to work independently within parameters.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills and effective collaboration with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.

Other Requirements:

In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (Minnesota State) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.

A job offer may be contingent upon successfully passing a background check. The background check may consist of the following components:

  • Criminal Background Check
  • Employment Record Review (current and former State employees only)
  • Employment Reference Check
  • Conflict of Interest Review

Physical Requirements: Must be able to transport up to 40 lbs. occasionally while moving boxes of textbooks.

Work Shift (Hours / Days of work): 9:00 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday
