Thrift Store Worker - Third Key

The Thrift Store Worker - Third Key is primarily responsible to work alongside the manager on duty or to open/close the store (key holder) in the absence of store management, to run the cash register, assist customers, and to properly price items when needed and display merchandise throughout the store. This is a regular full-time position.

$11.43 - $15.27 per hour, 40 hours a week

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • At least one year of experience working in a Thrift Store environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Possess a positive attitude, works well with others, be trustworthy, especially in confidential matters.
  • Ability to accept supervision and work with a team of co-workers.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks with a minimum of direction.
  • Computer literate and ability to run cash register.
  • Must pass background checks, possess a valid driver's license, and meet MVR driver qualifications.
  • Willing to support the philosophy, mission, and objectives of The Salvation Army.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Run the cash register.
  • Clear racks and remove empty hangers.
  • Help maintain neat appearance on sales floor and near the cash register.
  • Assist customers as needed.
  • Greet customers and answer phones in a professional manner.
  • Discard items that are not of showroom quality.
  • Assist in the backroom receiving donations.
  • Process donations unto the sales floor from the backroom.
  • Assist with keeping the store clean.
  • As a key holder, open/close the store as needed in the absence of or in assistance of management.
  • Assist with preparing the deposit at the end of the day, when needed.
  • Make deposit at the bank as requested.
  • Provide store supervision to staff and volunteers in the absence of the Assistant Thrift Store Manager and Thrift Store Manager.

Working Conditions:

  • Potential exposure to high dust levels, mold, other airborne particles, and other hazardous materials from donated items - this can be minimized through proper handling according to established policies.
  • Potential stress related to working with the public and staff - this can be minimized through utilizing good management skills and following proper policy.
  • The essential duties and responsibilities of this position cannot be performed from home.

Mental Activities and Requirements of Position:

  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to interpret various instructions.
  • Mathematics Ability - Ability to add, subtract multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Language Ability - Ability to speak, read and write English in a manner that is sufficient for clear communication with supervisors, employees, leaders, parents and participants in order to perform the requirements of this job.

Physical Activities and Requirements of Position:

  • Hearing - Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Repetitive Motion - Movements frequently and regularly required using the majority of the body.
  • Physical Requirements - Variety of Work; sitting approximately 50% of the time, with some prolonged standing, walking, bending, climbing. Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Talking - Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions, information, and ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Travel - The incumbent may be required to travel by personal vehicle, organization vehicle or other mode of travel supporting the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Visual Abilities - Average, ordinary, visual activity necessary to prepare or inspect documents.
