Staff Chaplain

Fairview is hiring a Staff Chaplain to join our Emergency Medical Services team at our St Paul location. A Staff Chaplain is responsible for coordinating and providing Spiritual Care services for assigned site(s) or area(s) in alignment with the Fairview Health Services mission and the department's philosophy, policies, and goals. This role participates in planning activities for assigned areas and delivers high-quality, effective Spiritual Care services. The Staff Chaplain also engages in community service and mission-focused activities that support patients, families, and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements.
  • Provides direct spiritual care to patients and families based on assessment of spiritual needs in assigned clinical areas during assigned shifts of work.
  • Shares monthly overnight and weekend on-call work as scheduled.
  • Demonstrates ongoing ability to provide care and service to diverse populations including developmental, cultural, and religious differences.
  • Collaborates with community clergy and spiritual leaders in all faith groups in relation with Spiritual care and community health.
  • Provides spiritual support and education to professional staff members.

Schedule:

  • 9am-5pm or 10am-6pm, weekends as needed
  • 0.4 FTE (16 hours a week)

Required Qualifications:

  • Master of Science Divinity degree or equivalent
  • Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education
  • Board Certified or eligible through APC, NACC, ACPE or NAJC with ecclesiastical endorsement for health care ministry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior Chaplaincy Experience in EMS, PD, Fire is a plus.
  • Demonstrated exposure to critical incidents: line-of-duty deaths, pediatric calls, mass casualty incidents, suicide, and cumulative stress.
  • 3 years ministry experience
  • Expertise and sensitivity to faith aspects of health and illness, especially as related to specific areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to provide spiritual care on an individual and group basis to achieve individual goals of care.
  • Ability to resolve issues.
  • Ability to use interpersonal skills and methods to reduce or eliminate conflict.
