About the Role:

R&D Interns will have the opportunity to work on meaningful and innovative projects in various phases of the design process while working closely with the Carotid R&D team. The Carotid R&D team focuses on devices used in the TCAR procedure, which enables safe and effective treatment of carotid artery disease. During your time at BSC, you will build relationships with professionals in a diverse range of fields, inspiring people to embrace a culture of innovation and patient-centric care. This position will be located in the new Arbor Lakes Boston Scientific facility in Maple Grove, MN.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborate in the design, prototyping, and development of novel design solutions for catheter-based products to improve performance and ease of use in clinical procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with other company functions as needed, including R&D, Marketing, Operations, Quality, Clinical, and Regulatory to ensure project success.
  • Apply systematic problem-solving methodologies in identifying, prioritizing, communicating, and resolving issues with suppliers.
  • Conduct testing and test method development.
  • Gain better understanding by applying academic knowledge to a real-world problem set.

Required Qualifications

  • Must graduate between December 2026 and May 2027.
  • Must have at least one semester of school left post-internship.
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Materials Science.
  • Must be able to commit to one of the following full internship program periods: May 18th - August 7th OR May 26th - August 14th.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the Maple Grove, MN Boston Scientific Corporate location.
  • Must have experience with Medical Device Design (Projects/Courses) Fluid mechanics experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong critical thinking and communication skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to identify improvement opportunities and passion to learn new technologies and find new solutions.
  • Knowledge of analytical techniques and statistical analysis.
  • Experience with 3D modeling.
