Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Minimum six (6) months experience working with people, preferably in a food services or other similar environment. Ability to take directions and adapt to fast pace environment. Must be familiar with quantity food preparation, kitchen equipment and proper sanitation practices. Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity to issues of homelessness, chemical addiction, and unemployment, racial and cultural diversity. Possess an aptitude in oral communications. Must be trustworthy, especially in confidential matters. Ability to accept supervision and work with a team of co-workers. Ability to use Salvation Army approved word processing, email, and timecards. Valid Driver's License. Must meet the guidelines provided by the State of residence and the automobile insurance provider as pertaining to corps' passenger vans/buses. Must pass The Salvation Army background checks, pre-employment drug testing, and meet the MVR driver's qualifications. Willingness to support the philosophy, goals, objectives, and mission of The Salvation Army. It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
The Food Service Assistant is responsible for assisting in the daily operation of a commercial kitchen, including preparing meals, serving meals and daily upkeep of the kitchen and dining areas in accordance with the requirements of the Department of Health. This is a regular part time position with a workweek expectation of 19 hours per week.

Work Conditions
There are normally no hazardous or significantly unpleasant physical working conditions, with the exception of the occasional emotional distress or turmoil (due to varying situations) with and between staff and/or clients and client's families. This position may require occasional driving throughout the Twin Cities Metro area. The duties and responsibilities of this position cannot be performed from home.
