Primary duties and responsibilities include providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, smiling and greeting customers in a friendly manner, assisting customers by escorting them, securing products, loading or unloading heavy items, making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests, answering the telephone promptly, working with co-workers as a team, weighing postal packages, processing mail, selling money orders, cashing checks, selling hunting and fishing licenses, breaking down and putting money in utility drawers, signing on postal department, processing paid outs, sending faxes, counting the days' coupons, processing refunds, utilizing the intercom system, and removing trash in a timely manner.
Secondary duties and responsibilities include signing on and off lottery machines, assisting customers with dry cleaning, assisting customers at the registers, selling and redeeming lottery tickets, processing bottle refunds, and assisting in other areas of the store as needed.
Knowledge, skills, abilities, and worker characteristics include the ability to solve practical problems, do arithmetic calculations, file, post, and mail materials, copy data, interview, guide people, and adhere to company policies and individual store guidelines.
Education and experience include high school or equivalent experience and over six months up to one year of similar or related work experience.
Physical requirements include the ability to perform medium work, visual requirements, and the following physical activities: stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, talking, and hearing.
Working conditions include exposure to dirt and noise in a fast-paced work environment with significant pressure. Equipment used includes a fax, telephone, postal equipment, lottery and money order machines, Western Union equipment, computer, and cash register, intercom.
Contacts include daily contact with customers, weekly contact with suppliers/vendors, and monthly contact with federal/state governmental or regulatory agencies.
