Job Summary:

The primary objective of the Controls Engineer is to complete project-related tasks associated with the design, configuration, and programming for industrial control systems for a wide variety of industries designed and manufactured by our Company. This position may work closely with various individuals to design the control panels per the requirements and must apply a strong attention to detail to maintain industry-leading quality.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop, configure, and maintain PLC and HMI programs to automate machinery and processes.
  • Integrate PLCs, HMIs, and electrical control systems with sensors, actuators, motors, drives, and other industrial components.
  • Design and document industrial control panels and electrical schematics, selecting appropriate components and creating detailed layouts that comply with industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues related to automation systems.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including system specifications, wiring diagrams, and user manuals.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, focusing on system performance, safety, efficiency, and cost reduction.
  • Stay current with advancements in PLC, HMI, and automation technology, actively evaluating new tools, methods, and best practices to recommend and implement innovative solutions that strengthen system capabilities.
  • Adhere to and support all safety policies and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of associate's degree/trade school program in electrical, automation, or a related field of study or minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical or related field
  • Five (5) years of experience using programming software and tools
  • Two (2) years of experience using electrical design software and tools
  • Proven experience as a Controls Engineer specializing in PLC/HMI control systems
  • Strong electrical aptitude
  • Working knowledge of computers and MS Office
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written) to collaborate with team members and clients
  • Exceptional work ethic, 'can-do' attitude and team player
  • Ability to lift and move 50 pounds of material unassisted
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time (nationally) as required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Controls Engineer specializing in Servo/SCADA/DCS control systems.
  • Experience as an Electrical Designer specializing in industrial control panels or similar systems.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical standards (UL and NEC) and regulations related to industrial control panels
  • Familiarity with ISO standards, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and engineering documentation processes
