This position is eligible for telework for applicants who reside in Minnesota or in a bordering state, with supervisory approval and satisfactory performance. This position exists to design an internal and external facing communication plan for community outreach and engagement strategies to ensure access and reduce disparities in outcome across DHS program and services. The Communication and Community Outreach Project Coordinator is part of the Community Relations Division, which focuses on representing the agency to external partners through communications, government relations, public policy, and community engagement. This position will develop and implement community centered communications strategies that support all of l Community Relations projects and activities. The position will support all aspects of communications for Community Relations in both internal and external initiatives and projects by updating internal and external websites, developing impact reports and evaluation that will advance and elevate the priorities of Community Relations Division. The Communication and Community Outreach Project Coordinator will identify and implement opportunities to establish collaborative communication between the agency and our community partners, community-based organizations, nonprofits, private entities, and community members that lead to policy solutions that promote equity and inclusion for all Minnesotans. This position will provide guidance and assistance to senior leadership in the development and implementation of a DHS communication and community engagement strategic plan.

Responsibilities Include But May Not Be Limited To:

  • Coordinate outreach initiatives, fostering relationships with community organizations and partners and facilitating communication between DHS staff and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Developing communication strategies for community engagement, organizing events and forums and establishing partnerships to enhance outreach efforts and evaluate impact of efforts.
  • Focus on grant management and oversight with community partners sharing DHS work.
  • Responsible for data analysis and reporting to support informed decision-making and program evaluation.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to community engagement, grant performance, and program outcomes.
  • Act as a main point of contact for community partners and stakeholders, offering technical assistance on engagement strategies and supporting the coordinating statewide meetings and presentations.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of experience managing projects related to human services, public health policy, social services, or health disparities. Experience must include:

  • Understanding of social and health disparities issues affecting populations of color, American Indians, and other populations.
  • Ability to form and sustain collaborative and effective relationships with a wide variety of diverse individuals, community groups, and organizations.
  • Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data.

Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Relations, or another related field may substitute for one (1) year of work experience. OR Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Relations, or another related field may substitute for two (2) years of work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with grants.
  • Knowledge of Minnesota's Human Services Health Programs and/or delivery systems.
  • Experience presenting data.
  • Engagement and outreach skills to negotiate a variety of interests to reach consensus.
  • Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures.
