Child Support Officer Salary Range: $23.44 - $35.45 per hour Full-Time, Non-Exempt * Child Support Officer - Waseca Site.

Child Support Officer performs paralegal functions related to the establishment and enforcement of child support orders for public assistance and non-public assistance clients; locates absent parents; interviews mothers and alleged fathers to establish paternity, explains rights and obligations and negotiates settlements; initiates necessary legal actions; may work closely with the county attorney, judges, court administrators, child support magistrates, local attorneys, income maintenance and social service staff, employers, and a variety of other resource personnel; testifies in court proceedings; and maintains all necessary and legal documentation. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Child Support Supervisor.

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Researches, collects, organizes and analyzes evidence gathered from clients, computer databases, employers, and internal and external agencies to determine the next appropriate legal action.
  • E-files legal documents with court administration and facilities service upon all involved parties adhering to MN rules of court.
  • Initiates contempt actions on delinquent cases and monitors to ensure ongoing timely payments received and purge conditions are met.
  • Meet and confer with all parties connected to the case utilizing a variety of communication methods.

Successful candidates will have: Associates/Technical degree with coursework in paralegal, business, public administration, behavioral or social sciences or related field and considerable (3-5 years) experience working with at-risk populations and the general public. OR High school diploma/GED and a minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Child Support Enforcement Aide. Valid driver's license. Ability to pass a standard background check.
