Building Engineer

We are seeking a dedicated facilities maintenance professional to join our team at a large commercial skyscraper in downtown Minneapolis. This operating engineer role offers the potential to transition into a full-time assistant chief engineer position, with opportunities for internal advancement.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and repair chillers, VAVs, air handlers, and other related equipment.
  • Service utility generators, UPS systems, and commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Perform plumbing, lighting, and general mechanical maintenance.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot pumps, cooling towers, and motors.
  • Conduct seasonal work, including small engine maintenance in winter and increased pump volume management in spring and summer.
  • Perform chemical treatment/testing and filter/belt replacements.
  • Execute preventive maintenance checks, lockout/tagout procedures, and support critical facility operations.
  • Assist with general facilities upkeep and project work, including minimal painting.

Essential skills include:

  • 5+ years of experience in building or facilities maintenance.
  • 2+ years of experience in HVAC troubleshooting, boilers, air handlers, chillers, and pumps.

Additional skills and qualifications:

  • Proficiency in facilities and building maintenance, repair, and work orders.
  • Experience with plumbing, boilers, and commercial equipment maintenance.

The position operates on the 1st shift with flexibility on start and end times, typically from 6 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Partial training is conducted during mid-shift hours. Once hired, you will participate in a rotating on-call schedule with five others. New hires receive a badge and building access in their first week. The work environment is close-knit, emphasizing customer service due to interaction with multiple managers and higher-level personnel. Attention to detail and excellent on-site customer service skills are crucial.

This is a contract to hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN. The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
