Supervisory Medical Support Assistant

The incumbent serves as a Medical Support Assistant in the Primary Care and Specialty Care Integrated Clinical Community (ICC). S/he works at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care Center, Minneapolis, MN.

Major Duties:

  • Plan and direct programs at medical centers and/or satellite outpatient clinics and have full supervisory responsibility for supervising at least one subordinate team leader or supervisor.
  • Assign and evaluate the work of subordinate staff.
  • Resolve complex problems to ensure patient services are met.
  • Evaluate new products, equipment, and systems in order to make recommendations for improved operations.
  • Identify educational or training needs.
  • Make final decisions on selections.
  • Evaluate performance.
  • Take disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Plan and direct the MSA's activities.
  • Extract and analyze data in order to provide reports in support of performance measures to senior management.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, Administrative Days- 0830-1700

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States (U.S.). Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens according to 38 U.S.C. § 7407(a).
  • Experience: No experience required.
  • Education: High school diploma, General Education Development equivalency certificate, or proficiency certificate from a State or territorial-level Board or Department of Education.
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration: None
  • English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
