R&D Catheter Assembler – Clean Room Medical Device Manufacturing
This role focuses on assembling medical catheters and related sub-assemblies in an R&D environment, primarily under a microscope and within a clean room. You will build short-run products, operate braiding and laser equipment, work on extrusion lines, perform visual inspections, document work accurately, and complete final packaging to support ongoing research and development activities.
Responsibilities
- Assemble catheters and other medical device sub-assemblies in an R&D setting using small hand tools and microscopes.
- Perform short-run builds, including catheter braiding, operating laser machines, and working on extrusion lines.
- Build and inspect your own assemblies, ensuring all products meet quality standards and specifications.
- Work as part of a team to assemble parts and collaborate effectively with group members and cross-functional partners.
- Sort and place materials or items on tables, racks, or bins to support efficient workflow.
- Assemble small parts manually under a microscope with high attention to detail.
- Clean assembled parts and place them in protective bags or boxes to maintain product integrity.
- Package assembled parts and prepare them for final shipment or further processing.
- Pick up, move, and sort small parts as needed to support production activities.
- Verify raw materials and lot numbers to ensure accurate traceability and compliance.
- Build product by following all established processes and work instructions while meeting manufacturing goals and metrics.
- Rotate through various tasks as necessary and maintain positive working relationships within the team and cross-functionally.
- Maintain accurate records, including training documentation and all required production paperwork.
- Report defective material or questionable conditions promptly to the appropriate supervisor or management.
- Follow and adhere to all safety and quality processes and procedures at all times.
- Communicate the status of operations in a timely manner to management, including any safety, quality, or process issues.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with clean room and facility standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management to support team and organizational objectives.
Essential Skills
- 2–3 years of experience in medical device manufacturing, specifically building catheters or operating braiding and extrusion machines.
- Previous experience performing visual inspections and operating assembly equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet all applicable deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and productively with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks or projects.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow detailed work instructions.
- Comfort working under a microscope for extended periods throughout the day.
- Experience with catheter assembly, catheter building, and medical device assembly in a clean room setting.
- Proficiency in microscope-based assembly and inspection of small components.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with clean room assembly practices and adherence to clean room protocols.
- Experience working with guide wires, braiding processes, and extrusion lines in medical device manufacturing.
- Familiarity with laser machine operation for medical device or catheter components.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team environment and work cross-functionally.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Ability to adapt to varying daily workloads, including days with higher microscope work (up to approximately 50%).

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
