Responsible for the operations and maintenance of HVAC and Utilities Distribution systems throughout the campus, including the monitoring and operation of the Building Automation system. This position is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance as needed and responding to all emergencies in a timely manner. Also responsible for maintenance of the university's high-pressure steam boilers, chillers, and other related equipment of the Central Plant. This position will assist other Facilities Services personnel as directed.
This position reports to the Director of Energy Management / Chief Engineer. Assists and works with all Facilities Services personnel as needed.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent. 5 years in operations and maintenance of HVAC and Utilities Distribution systems.
Post-high school education/training in HVAC, refrigeration, building controls, and/or other related fields. Operations and maintenance of HVAC and Utilities Distribution systems on a higher education campus. Knowledge and experience in the operation of steam boilers. Knowledge and experience in the operation of a chiller plant. Operations and maintenance of Food Service / Kitchen Appliances. Experience with fire suppression systems. Experience with pipe fitting Minnesota Chief Class "B" License Minnesota 2nd Class "B" License
Successfully pass a required criminal background check. Valid MN Driver's License or Equivalent
Requires the ability to work in a noisy environment. Ability to perform the physical demands of the job (e.g. lifting over 50 pounds, climbing and working from ladders to heights over 20 feet, working from kneeling and stooping positions). Ability to work outside during extreme weather conditions (e.g. rain, snow, freezing temperatures, heat, and humidity).
This is a full-time, 1.0 FTE non-exempt position which requires a minimum of 40 hours a week, 12 months a year. This position has the opportunity if the position is open, to be promoted to an Assistant Chief Engineer which includes a pay increase of $3/hr. This is at the discretion of the Director of Energy Management / Chief Engineer. Is a member of a local unionized bargaining unit. This position requires overtime during peak seasons. Occasional night and/or weekend work may be required.
