Duties

This position serves as a Human Resources Assistant, providing administrative, clerical and technical support in the day-to-day administration of the Frontline Staffing team. This position starts at a salary of $49,015.00 (GS-06, Step 1) to $70,811.00 (GS-07, Step 10). GS Salary: Visit this link to view the locality pay tables by geographic area. Typical duties include:

  • Assisting applicants and employees in preparing and submitting a variety of personnel forms.
  • Accessing personnel records to provide information on the status of applications and resolving inquiries requested by the caller (applicant, agency representative, and supervisor).
  • Making accurate determinations on applicant qualifications and eligibilities consistent with the appropriate position vacancy and hiring authorities.
  • Applying a wide range of human resources concepts, laws, policies, and regulation to address and resolve human resources issues.
  • Utilizing a personal computer and a variety of office software programs (MS Suite, USA Staffing, Salesforce, Information Security Management System, Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing and SharePoint) to review, enter data, complete forms, correct errors or omissions as well as to extract, revise/sort information in HR documents, files, records and databases.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-06 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:

  • Providing advice and guidance to other team members to address applicant inquiries.
  • Maintaining files, compiling reports, and assisting in the preparation and tracking of recruitment and/or staffing activities Providing a responsive, effective and high level of customer service to customers.
  • Using a variety of office software programs (MS Suite, Salesforce, and SharePoint) to enter data, and complete forms.

You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:

  • Researching and obtaining all necessary relevant information regarding cases and issues and providing general explanations.
  • Investigating, resolving and responding to customer calls, e-mails, and any other customer service issues.
  • Using a variety of office software programs (MS Suite, Salesforce, and SharePoint) to enter data, complete forms, correct errors or omissions as well as to extract, revise/sort information in HR documents, files, records, and databases.

NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible.

You must:

  • Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
  • Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 12/12/2025.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Background Investigation: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal law enforcement agency that requires all applicants to undergo a thorough background investigation prior to employment in order to promote the agency's core values of vigilance, service to country, and integrity.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years.
