Firmware Engineer

As a Firmware Engineer, your primary role will be to develop firmware and assist with hardware design for a variety of custom embedded control products, ranging from pump control to smart energy products and other emerging technologies. You will design and review schematics and hardware layouts, as well as develop and test both firmware and hardware for embedded controllers to ensure they meet functional specifications and customer needs. You will work closely with the R&D team to understand requirements for product implementation, with a focus of 70% on firmware and 30% on hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Develop firmware in C/C++ for microcontrollers from NXP, Atmel, and ST, with and without the use of a Real-Time Operating System.
  • Design and review schematics and hardware layouts.
  • Test firmware and hardware for embedded controllers to ensure they meet functional specifications.
  • Collaborate with the R&D team to understand product requirements.
  • Read schematics and debug embedded controllers on circuit boards.
  • Design hardware for embedded controller applications, including creating schematics, selecting components, and designing analog and digital circuits.
  • Utilize I2C, UART, and SPI interfaces, as well as UI/UX development.
  • Implement Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other wireless protocols.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in writing embedded firmware in C/C++ for microcontrollers.
  • Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems.
  • Ability to read schematics and debug embedded controllers.
  • Strong hardware design skills for embedded controller applications.
  • Experience in creating schematics and designing circuits.
  • Knowledge of I2C, UART, SPI interfaces, and UI/UX development.
  • Familiarity with Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other wireless protocols.
  • A 4-year degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in a related field.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in multithreading and low-level firmware development.
  • Knowledge of device driver development and hardware integration.
  • Experience in board bring-up and embedded software development.

Work Environment

This role offers a combination of onsite and remote work. While a significant portion of work can be completed remotely, onsite presence is required when interacting with hardware. The position is based in a small engineering design services group, providing an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects and technologies.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
