Department Overview The Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Coon Rapids is a 16-bed, 12-room unit and is part of the Mother Baby Center at Mercy with Children's Minnesota. The NICU team cares for babies who are 28 weeks and older and require a higher level of care than the newborn nursery provides, as well as full-term babies who may be sick, have an anomaly, needing respiratory support. We care for these babies and their families and provide education to help them learn how to care for their baby at home. Our team of nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, neonatologists and nurse practitioners work together to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for the patients, families and staff. Position Summary Provides safe patient care as delegated by licensed nursing staff and maintains equipment and supplies per unit standard. Completed a nursing assistant course or equivalent experience, or completed a nursing or health care related clinical practicum course. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Education High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience One year of previous Nursing Assistant experience or equivalent experience preferred. Skills and Abilities Proficient communication, critical thinking, and prioritization skills required. Strong organizational skills. Excellent customer service skills. Must be able to read, write, and speak effectively in English to perform functions of the position. Skills in basic computer operation.
