Building Engineer

We are seeking a full-time Facilities Maintenance professional to join our team at a large commercial skyscraper in downtown Minneapolis. This is a mid-shift Operating Engineer position with the potential to advance into a full-time Assistant Chief Engineer role. Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair chillers, VAVs, air handlers, and related equipment.
  • Service utility generators, UPS systems, and commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Perform plumbing, lighting, and general mechanical maintenance.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot pumps, cooling towers, and motors.
  • Conduct seasonal work, including small engine maintenance and increased pump volume handling.
  • Perform chemical treatment/testing and replace filters/belts.
  • Execute preventive maintenance checks, lockout/tagout procedures, and support critical facility operations.
  • Assist with general facilities upkeep and project work, including minimal painting.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in Building or Facilities maintenance.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • 2+ years of experience in repairing HVAC, boilers, and troubleshooting equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of facilities maintenance, building maintenance, and repair work orders.
  • Experience with bathrooms, toilets, drains, faucets, boilers, and plumbing.

Work Environment

The position offers a 1st shift schedule with flexibility: 6 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Once hired, you will participate in a rotating on-call schedule with five other team members. The work environment is close-knit, with a strong emphasis on customer service as you will interact with multiple managers and high-level personnel in the main building during working hours. Attention to detail and excellent customer service skills are crucial. You will receive a badge and building access during your first week.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr.
