Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist

The Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist (BESS) provides clinical and administrative support to staff, patients, and administrators for all matters of concern relating to the facility wide lifecycle management of medical equipment.

Major duties include:

  • Assisting in lifecycle management of medical systems under direction of more experienced BESS and/or Biomedical Engineers.
  • Documenting all work performed in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Investigating, remediating and documenting recalls and safety alerts within established timeframes.
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of relevant safety codes and standards of regulatory bodies.
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of the state of the art in medical technology.
  • Performing additional duties as directed by supervisor related to maintenance, remediation, and tracking of medical systems.
  • Troubleshooting medical equipment and clinical systems using a variety of technical data.
  • Performing incoming inspections and planned maintenance on medical equipment and clinical systems.
  • Responding to and remediating hazard alerts, recall notifications, and incidents concerning medical equipment and clinical systems.
  • Monitoring system backups, ensuring network connectivity, mitigating cybersecurity vulnerabilities, and maintaining clinical systems.
  • Utilizing test equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions.
  • Managing projects involving medical equipment and clinical systems.
  • Providing customer support to staff, evaluating issues and needs, responding with solutions, and keeping customers abreast of status.
  • Educating staff on the safe operation and user-level maintenance of medical equipment and clinical systems.

Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Telework: Not Eligible. Virtual: This is not a virtual position.

Requirements include:

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
