Permanent Supportive Housing - Site Assistant - ARCHES

The Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) Site Assistant is located at one of three permanent supportive housing programs that provide affordable and stable housing to people experiencing chronic homelessness. This position will provide direct support to sheltering services for residents of the PSH Project that promotes long-term housing stability.

There are multiple vacancies for this position. This position requires the availability to work graveyard and swing shift.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • One year of related work experience.
  • Preferences given to applicants who have experience of working with people experiencing homelessness or the at-risk of becoming homeless; and/or work experience with the public in a healthcare or community services setting.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Driver Qualification Status not required for this position.
  • Candidates must pass a comprehensive MWVCAA background screening prior to employment.
  • Basic Life Support/First Aid Certification is required within first 30 days of hire.
  • Food Handler's Card or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • Candidate must pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Candidates with experience as a Community Health Worker are preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiencies in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), videoconferencing platforms, and web tools.
  • Exhibits a positive attitude and engages with others in a cooperative and supportive manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employees will also perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by management as required.

  • Performs cleaning, janitorial, and laundry tasks in support of day-to-day sheltering operations.
  • Assists residents by answering questions and referring to appropriate program staff.
  • Assists with program operations including for clients, follow-up with clients, assisting clients with navigation to resources, general data entry, and other special projects as needed.
  • Uses de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed care principles while performing tasks.
  • Assists other staff in providing a calm and safe environment for residents to thrive. This may include supporting lease compliance, positive tenancy and monitoring door traffic.
  • Assists in other ARCHES program locations as needed, performing data entry, filing, cleaning and other related tasks.
  • Attends required training and remains up to date on policies and procedures for Supportive Services Operations as needed.
  • Supports nutrition staff as needed by completing various kitchen tasks, including cooking meals.
  • Participates in Community Outreach to local organizations, camps, and groups as directed by supervisor.
  • Maintains appropriate boundaries with clients and coworkers at all times.
  • Complies with MWVCAA safety and personnel policies, including punctuality and attendance.

Supervisory Responsibilities

There are no supervisory duties in this position.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Requires the ability to communicate with others and respond to potential emergencies.
  • Regularly lift up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity for handling personal items and use of computers and written in-take processing.
  • Incidental driving tasks may be requested for employees with a personal vehicle and proof of current auto insurance.
  • Requires ability to remain alert, often late and night or early morning.
  • Maintains calm disposition when clients or others may become escalated, applying crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques for all participants.
  • Regulates emotions during interactions with escalated clients and staff.
  • Regulates emotions and handles pressures of frequent demands for attention, time and work tasks.

Work Environment

  • Regularly works indoor and outdoor in cold weather, heat and other extreme climate events.
  • Close quarters, often with a public client population experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, and/or severe and persistent mental illness, and/or unpredictable behavior.
  • Frequent interruptions and demands; frequent noise.
  • Ability to work variable shifts outside of normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
