We work closely with GitHub to bring AI assistance wherever you are coding—writing, debugging, diagnosing, testing, committing, or reviewing. We are a diverse, entrepreneurial, multidisciplinary group of data scientists, researchers, and software engineers passionate about using AI to improve the productivity of millions of developers worldwide. Fine-tuned AI models and fluid user interaction are key to satisfaction, productivity, and adoption. This position is for a Principal Software Engineer - CoreAI eager to work on developer scenarios and who is passionate about the opportunities AI models create and the development strategies that build products around them. The role requires creativity, tenacity, and critical thinking to work with these novel technologies. In this role, you will collaborate with IDE and coding language teams, data scientists, and internal and external LLM provider partners across the globe and time zones.

The role has two main focuses. First, building tools and systems to measure, evaluate, and compare advanced AI developer productivity features at scale. You will work closely with product teams to run experiments, evaluate, iterate, and improve developer products. Second, supporting forward-looking exploration with rapid prototyping, development, and delivery of cutting-edge developer tools.
