Tube Bending Engineer

This position involves working with equipment that performs tube bending and wire bending/forming processes. The role requires interfacing with customers to ensure that products being developed meet customer expectations and follow proper timelines. This includes conducting feasibility studies, assisting with tooling design and validation, and ensuring that machine configurations are correct for customer requirements. The application engineer will follow products from conception to final production, participating in customer run-offs on site and working closely with the sales department.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical development and validation of customer applications from feasibility through production.
  • Collect and coordinate application requirements with customers and Sales to ensure successful Tube & Wire Forming projects.
  • Review customer drawings and assess application feasibility.
  • Partner with Sales to recommend appropriate machine features, tooling, software, and accessories.
  • Conduct customer demonstrations on Tube & Wire Forming equipment and software.
  • Travel to customer sites to support Sales efforts, gather technical details, and assist with applications.
  • Manage tooling-related nonconformances, supplier communication, timing, and rework/RMA activities.
  • Review tooling designs and recommend improvements to optimize performance.
  • Communicate application requirements and progress to Project Management and Installation teams, providing regular status updates.
  • Support customers throughout commissioning, acceptance testing, installation, and post-sale activities.
  • Assist with customer run-off tests, tooling validation, machine setup, and programming as required.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, safety standards, and quality expectations while maintaining strong internal and customer relationships.
  • Contribute to process improvements and act as an escalation point for application or tooling issues.

Essential Skills:

  • Understanding of tube bending or wire forming processes.
  • Mechanical engineering background.
  • Experience in automation, design, and engineering.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in project management and mechanical design.
  • Experience in application engineering.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience working in an environment with Tube Bending or Wire Forming processes.
  • 4+ years of overall engineering experience working with equipment and manufacturing.
  • Any CAD experience with Solidworks, AutoCAD, or various CAD systems.

Work Environment:

The applications team consists of about 20 individuals, including applications engineers, specialists, and installation technicians. This role requires traveling 50-75% of the time to customer sites, primarily within the U.S., with weekends at home. Job Type & Location:

This is a Permanent position based out of Farmington Hills, MI.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $93000.00/yr. Health care package with 401k and other options are available. There is a discretionary bonus based on company performance.
