We seek a Senior Power Electronics Engineer based out of our office at 3800 Automation Avenue, Auburn Hills, MI 48326. Note, this is a hybrid position whereby the employee will work both from home and from the aforementioned office address. Hence, the employee must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the aforementioned office address. Note, this position requires domestic and international travel up to 5%, as needed.
Lead technology development and demonstration in the power electronics and adjacent spaces, supporting corporate initiatives and managing trends and technology roadmaps. Serve as a leader and individual contributor to primarily power electronics and power conversion projects, including design and development activities, and analysis/studies to ensure BorgWarner is on the forefront of emerging and disruptive architectures, devices, and topologies.
Conduct initiatives, studies, risk assessments as required for the corporation beyond the core area of focus above (such as new products, technologies, markets, etc), leveraging sound engineering principles and BorgWarner business metrics. Represent the organization in cross-enterprise activities and initiatives to ensure power electronics solutions leverage scale and commonization of design, control, certification, and validation. Perform simulation analysis and/or hands-on physical testing of emerging technology from discrete devices and power modules to support componentry (gate drives, capacitors, etc.) all the way to product/system.
Establish and maintain trend and roadmap documents, as well as, strategic technical assessments of devices and architectures as it applies to current, emerging, and adjacent portfolio. Communicate with internal customers (including executive leadership) and represent the organization publicly to customers, partners, and industry (trade shows, etc.). Mentor and guide engineers and interns, as well as, teach and improve fundamental electrical and electronic operation, theory, and trade-offs. Lead and support co-development activities with outside partners (consultancies, universities, national laboratories, consortia). Objectively evaluate new technologies and new areas/applications.
Requirements: Master's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering and 180 months of experience in job offered or related positions in automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM)s and/or Tier1 and/or industrial and/or consumer electronics. Experience must include: experience in design and development of physical power electronics products, including schematic design, circuit simulation, component selection, specification of requirements and controls interfaces; experience with risk assessment and automotive functional safety requirements; experience in automotive power inverters, converters, from power devices to passive components; experience developing high voltage power topologies and components; experience related to high voltage vehicle systems; experience with magnetics design and analysis capabilities (isolated transformers, interleaved transformers, etc.); experience with automotive power electronics requirements (ISO26262, AEC-Qx, Autosar, etc.); experience in the application of controls and modelling tools (PSIM, PLECS, Spice, Matlab Simulink, etc.)
