Senior Kafka Engineer

Cognizant's Digital Engineering is seeking a highly skilled Senior Kafka Engineer with 6+ years of experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Kafka and a strong background in the Payer domain. This is a hybrid work model with day shifts and no travel required. The candidate will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining our systems ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.

Location: Owings Mills, MD USA (Remote)

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of high-quality software solutions using Kafka.
• Oversee the integration of Kafka with other systems and applications.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze requirements.
• Ensure the scalability and reliability of Kafka-based systems.
• Conduct code reviews to maintain code quality and best practices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Kafka and other technologies.
• Develop and maintain documentation for Kafka-based systems.
• Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.
• Participate in agile development processes and contribute to sprint planning.
• Ensure compliance with security and data protection standards.
• Optimize system performance and ensure high availability.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes.

Qualifications

6+ years of experience. Strong Kafka Connect knowledge with SMT, Connect Architecture and implementation, custom Provider. Hands on experience in setting up Source/Sink connectors. Strong KSQLDB knowledge with custom UDF. Managing Kafka resource (Topic, ACLs, Service Accounts). C3 Knowledge. Managing worker nodes. Platform Migration and upgrade activities. Monitoring and Alerting. Softskills- work in a team.

Certifications Required

Certified Apache Kafka Developer Certified Scrum Developer

Salary and Other Compensation

Applications will be accepted until August 25th, 2025. The annual salary for this position is between $81K – $114K depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
