Emissions Lab Hardware Engineer - Intermediate

We are seeking an Emissions Lab Hardware Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with engineers, union technicians, and mechanics to troubleshoot and resolve test equipment issues related to Emissions Chassis Dynamometer test cells, SHEDs, and other emissions testing equipment. This role requires performing quality control and calibration activities to meet regulatory and internal department standards, as well as supporting new test cell equipment integration for regulatory and powertrain testing requirements. The position also involves analyzing test results, validating tests for compliance, and working on projects to enhance test cell efficiencies and throughput.

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with emissions testing equipment including Emissions Chassis Dynamometer test cells and SHEDs.
  • Perform quality control and calibration activities to meet regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Support the integration of new test cell equipment for regulatory and powertrain testing.
  • Analyze and validate test results to ensure compliance with regulations and internal standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and mechanics to improve test cell efficiencies and throughput.
  • Coordinate and manage suppliers, contractors, and internal trades to support project needs.

Essential Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in automotive testing, particularly with vehicle or engine emissions testing equipment such as chassis dynamometers and analyzers.
  • Proficiency with ETAS/INCA and HORIBA analyzer bench software.
  • Familiarity with PEMS and RDE certification, LDV knowledge, data post-processing, and analysis.
  • Experience in particulate measurement and engine test support with an emphasis on test cell instrumentation and facility systems.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and analyze data with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of engine test support experience preferred.
  • Prior project management training or experience.
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical prints for troubleshooting equipment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Analytical skills with a focus on root cause analysis.
  • Self-motivated with excellent communication skills.
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Work Environment:

This position is located 100% onsite in Chelsea, Michigan, with two positions available for the 3rd shift and one for the 2nd shift. The work environment includes collaboration with a diverse group of engineers, supervisors, and UAW personnel. The role requires minimal travel, approximately 0-10%, and does not involve driving Stellantis vehicles.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract position based out of Chelsea, Michigan.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $41.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
