Lead Front End Engineer, CoCounsel Core Skills
Thomson Reuters is seeking a Lead Front End Engineer, CoCounsel Core Skills who will lead multiple and/or significant projects, programs and business initiatives, demonstrating creativity and ingenuity. Our ideal candidate is an engineer with at least six years of professional experience building applications used by real customers, is an exceptional communicator and fast learner. In this role, you will build user-friendly and performant designs, communicate well across teams to prevent and reduce tech debt, estimate and break down work, and work closely with product and design teams.
In this opportunity as a Lead Front End Engineer, you will:
- Champion AI-powered development tools that amplify team velocity and code quality
- Navigate and optimize our React/Angular mixed-stack MFE ecosystem, making strategic decisions about when to consolidate, refactor, or rebuild while ensuring seamless integration
- Set technical standards for UI implementation quality, performance, accessibility, and maintainability - leading by example with code that other engineers study to learn best practices
- Collaborate with backend engineers to design optimal API contracts, work with Product to challenge requirements that would create poor user experiences, and partner with Design to push beyond static mockups when AI capabilities enable better experiences
- Build tooling, templates, and developer-friendly abstractions that reduce friction and cognitive load for team members, documenting not just what the code does but why decisions were made
- Champion continuous improvement in how the team builds and ships features, representing frontend engineering perspectives in architectural discussions
- Provide mentorship and assistance for other team members
About You: You're a fit for the role of Lead Front End Engineer if you have the following required qualifications:
- At least six years of work experience as a software engineer, writing production code
- Experience building complex frontend applications that users actually enjoy using, with demonstrated success in creating intuitive interfaces for complex capabilities
- Proficiency in React, Angular, or both, with understanding of their different strengths and appropriate use cases
- Experience with Micro Frontend (MFE) architecture and managing complex
- Track record of using AI development tools to accelerate work and improve code quality (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar)
- Proven ability to refactor or consolidate codebases to improve maintainability, with examples of technical decisions that future engineers benefited from
- Strong collaboration skills working with backend engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver cohesive user experiences
- Focus on performance optimization, accessibility standards, and responsive design principles
- Experience with modern frontend development practices including component libraries, state management, and build optimization
