Food Service Kitchen Coordinator/Aide

Old Redford Academy is hiring a full time Food Service Kitchen Coordinator/Aide. Old Redford Academy has new leadership, new direction and a new commitment to academic excellence. The academy is a tuition free, Pre-K to 12th grade academy that offers highly qualified teachers, free transportation, one-to-one student technology, an expansive athletic program, and a rigorous curriculum that is both standards based and culturally responsive.

Job Summary: We are seeking a reliable Food Service Kitchen Coordinator/Aide to join our team. This position involves assisting in the daily operations of the kitchen, coordinating food preparation, serving, and cleaning up after meals while adhering to health and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for promoting healthy eating habits among students and work collaboratively with school staff and students.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

  • Follow health and safety standards, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices.
  • Assist in preparing a variety of nutritious meals and snacks according to established menus and dietary guidelines. Ensure all meals are presented attractively and in accordance with portion control standards.
  • Regularly clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas.
  • Work closely with food service staff to coordinate meal schedules and effective kitchen operations. Communicate with teachers and staff regarding meal programs.
  • Interact positively with students, staff, and faculty to create a welcoming environment.
  • Address student dietary needs and preferences, providing assistance as needed.
  • Assist in monitoring inventory levels of food and supplies. Help maintain stock through ordering, receiving, and storing food items according to established procedures.
  • Keep accurate records of meal counts, inventory levels, and any food service-related incidents. Assist in preparing reports as required by the school administration or the health department.
  • Participate in waste management and recycling initiatives.
  • Work cooperatively with other food service staff to ensure efficient operation of the kitchen.
  • Participate in staff training sessions and professional development opportunities as required.
  • Responsible for all phases of food preparation.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
  • Supervise students during meal periods.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Cognitive Demands:

Ability to recall and follow all protocols set by the USDA and the Academy. Must be able to maintain a clean and safe work environment. Have successful written and verbal communication. Ability to supervise multiple students at once.

Physical Demands:

Occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Stand, walk, reach, lift, push, pull, talk or hear frequently. Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year. Withstand a moderate noise level.

Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in food service or a similar role is preferred Knowledge of food safety practices and regulations. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks. Excellent communication
