Market Operations & Automation Analyst

MET International AG (METI) was established in 2010 to consolidate and develop MET Group's international natural gas sales and purchase portfolio, as well as to establish a trading arm for commodity lines.

METI is responsible for providing highly competitive supply structures to its gas and power sales affiliates, optimizing its power generation assets, managing the LNG portfolio, and trading around international positions.

Job Description

  • IT project management to support automation, business development to enhance and/or automate the below and to support these on an operational level through daily operations
  • Ensure physically balanced position through pre-approved trading strategies within the limits of the day-ahead and intraday power markets (occasional weekend work is required: once a month ~1 hour/day)
  • Support regional cross-border capacity auction participation and ensure the proper power capacity life cycle is completed with special attention to secondary market actions and any reporting duties arising from this
  • Monitor and manage physical power positions in all relevant markets
  • Strong collaboration with the analyst, scheduling, legal, back-office teams and the group subsidiaries
  • Support system (position management, scheduling, etc.) implementation, integration and development projects
  • Validate daily P&L and position changes
  • Collateral management

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience within power markets, ideally within a commodity trading environment
  • Degree in a quantitative discipline (mathematics, physics, engineering, finance or economics)
  • Understanding of the power market's fundamentals: background from market operations, middle/back office, or any TSO/SPOT exchange
  • Understanding of IT development and project management basics, automation implementation, including but not limited to translation of business needs to the level of IT developments, management of testing and go-live event support
  • Previous experience as a Business analyst is a plus
  • Ability to work precisely under time pressure, effective planning to mitigate unexpected problems or unforeseen changes, investigate independently even complex issues, and create operational processes for any new business cases
  • Basic coding skills in VBA (understanding of any other coding language is plus)
  • Strong communication skills in English, mandatory, and CEE language skills are advantageous
