Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Director, Protective Services, plans, directs and oversees operations and administration of the law enforcement, security, and emergency management functions for all facilities within the market, including training, policies and procedures based on the needs of the facilities and other strategic initiatives. The director will focus on providing subject matter expertise, incident response management, workplace violence prevention and personal safety and security, for the respective market. The Director will ensure all regulatory standards are being met and being reviewed annually. Works effectively with executives and management committed to organizational goals, fosters collaboration among team members and teams internally and externally for the respective Market.
Essential Job Functions
- Facilitates procedures to ensure the mission is embedded into the Protective Services function across the market, regardless of employed or contracted officers.
- Participates in monthly calls and other workflows aimed at standardizing policies and approaches to the protective services function across the market.
- Evaluates data related to incidents where protective services are involved and recommends mitigation to prevent future occurrences across the market.
- Identifies, collects, and evaluates security analytics to make data driven decisions.
- Oversees the safety and security aspects of incident response planning, as well as assisting in the investigations of security incidents across the system in collaboration with the appropriate operational functions and the legal team.
- Works with outside consultants as appropriate for necessary independent security audits.
- Works with facility leaders within their respective Market to identify and meet their needs. Maintains collaborative relationships within the Risk and Insurance shared service function. Remains open to new ideas and supportive of the other functions.
- Provides input on annual budgets and strategic plans, serving on the Protective Services Advisory Council (PSAC), the Protective Services Enterprise Leadership Market and the Response to Resistance Review Panel as well as other applicable committees which may deliver significant safety and security issues to system and/or market administration.

Licensing/Certification
- Valid Driver's License
- NRA or Law Enforcement certified concealed carry course (preferred)
- Healthcare Safety and Emergency Management Professional certification (preferred)
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP) (preferred)
- Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) (preferred)
- Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) (preferred)
Education
- Bachelor's in criminal justice, Business Administration, Law Enforcement, Security, or closely related field (required)
- Master's in criminal justice, Business Administration, Law Enforcement, Security, or closely related field (preferred)
Work Experience
- 5 years' experience in security or law enforcement or closely related field (required)
- 10 years' experience in a senior level security or law enforcement (preferred)
Training
- Non-violent crisis intervention training (required within 6 months of hire)
- Firearms qualifications; successfully pass bi-annual firearms qualifications if applicable.
- Completion of Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) Chief of Police Training Course (required within six months of hire for Ohio residents)
Skills
Hard/Tech/Clinical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Ability to maintain highly confidential information
- Ability to provide effective consulting, coaching, and training to develop learning programs and interventions utilizing technologies through virtual and online methods
- Knowledge with security technology related but not limited to access control, security video management, infant abduction, intrusion and duress alarm, and radio communications systems.
- Knowledge of security and law enforcement equipment and tools like firearms, Taser, impact weapons, handcuffs, and other restraining equipment
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use, maintenance, and safety protocols for defensive tools and restraint equipment (e.g., batons, handcuffs, body-worn cameras, soft restraints), in alignment with healthcare regulations and organizational policies.
- Maintain strong technical skills in radio communication, report writing, surveillance systems, and access control software, with the ability to accurately document incidents and coordinate effectively with clinical teams and law enforcement.
