A Day in the Life

In this exciting role, you will support the development of next-generation sacral and tibial neuromodulation systems. You'll be responsible for leading user research and human factors engineering deliverables, including use-related risk analysis, formative and summative protocols and reports, and usability engineering summaries. This is a highly collaborative position, working closely with cross-functional partners, including systems design and test/integration, marketing, software, labeling, medical education, etc.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Applies human-centered principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design of human-machine systems and products.
  • Develops and implements research methodologies and quantitative and qualitative analysis plans to test and evaluate new concepts and developmental prototypes across all phases of product development and processes.
  • Designs and executes tests to simulate product use for the purposes of user need investigation, concept exploration/selection/refinement, requirements development, use-related risk identification, and formal usability validation with intended users, with design engineers to establish system design, operating, and training requirements, and to ensure optimized human-machine interfaces and overall user experience.
  • Identifies and analyzes technological problems or risks, performs theoretical human factors investigations, and develops and implements research and analysis plans to inform the design direction of new product development.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Requires a Baccalaureate degree
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience OR PhD with 0 years relevant experience.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Strong understanding of usability standards (IEC 62366, ANSI HE75, FDA Human Factors Guidance) and a network of external partners in human factors
  • Experience designing and validating class III medical devices
  • Experience working directly for medical device manufacturers
  • Experience as lead on a human factors regulatory submission, US and/or global
  • Experience working with devices involving both software and hardware preferred
  • Experience leading human factors teams working on complex development programs

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD): $120,000.00 - $180,000.00. This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
