Medtronic Test Automation Engineer

Responsibilities
You will read, analyze, understand product requirements. You will actively participate in story grooming. You will participate in test case documentation and reviews. You will learn and understand software standards for medical devices. You will under general direction and collaboratively with internal and external partners.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- 12+ years of experience in test automation for software desktop, web, mobile & embedded applications.
- Solid understanding of desktop, web, mobile & embedded application architectures and testing methodologies.
- Define, architect, and implement a unified automation strategy that supports desktop, web, mobile, embedded, API, and cloud testing.
- Build and enhance scalable frameworks using Python, Selenium, Appium, Test Complete, Winappdriver and Katalon Studio with support for parallel execution and CI/CD integration.
- Introduce and institutionalize AI-driven automation practices, including self-healing tests, visual verification, and intelligent object recognition.
- Establish best practices for test code design, reusability, and maintainability across projects.
- Integrate automation suites into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI).
- Evaluate and introduce new-age tools and frameworks aligned with enterprise architecture and technology roadmap.
- Lead and mentor teams of automation engineers, fostering innovation and skill development in emerging tools like Katalon, Playwright, Cypress, and AI-assisted frameworks.
- Define measurable automation KPIs (coverage, stability, ROI) and present progress and insights to leadership.
- Ability to work on cross-functional project teams comprised of software verification and development engineers, system engineers, human factor engineers and quality engineers.
- Proficiency in writing clear, concise, and comprehensive test plans and test cases.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with Agile software test methods.
- Good logical and reasoning skills.
Required knowledge and experience:
- Technical
- Strong programming expertise in Python, Java & C# (optional: LabVIEW)
- Web Automation: Selenium, Test Complete, Katalon Studio.
- Mobile Automation: Appium, Katalon Mobile Studio.
- Desktop Automation: WinAppDriver, Pywinauto, White, or custom frameworks.
- API Automation: RestAssured, Postman, or Katalon API.
- Embedded test automation will be an added advantage.
- Deep understanding of automation architecture, design patterns (Page Object, Screenplay), and reusable componentization.
- Experience integrating automation in CI/CD pipelines.
- AI & Innovation
- Familiarity with AI-powered testing tools (Ex:Katalon AI).
- Exposure to GenAI, prompt engineering, and machine learning concepts relevant to test optimization.
- Ability to leverage AI for test selection, data generation, and failure pattern analysis.
- Leadership & Strategic
- Strong experience in defining automation roadmaps, tool evaluation, and ROI justification.
- Ability to lead large distributed automation teams and drive capability building across multiple product lines.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and presentation skills.
- Define test strategy to improve the test coverage.
Minimum Qualification:
- Required: Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology in Computer Sciences, Biotechnology, Bio-Medical, Electronics or Electrical Engineering.
- Preferred: Masters in Engineering or master's in technology computer sciences, Bio-Technology, Bio-Medical, Electronics or Electrical Engineering.
Principal Working Relationship:
- You will report to Engineering Manager, R&D.
- You will interact with Test Lead, other developers, V&V engineers, internal partners and stakeholders concerning design, implementation or requirement clarifications, works closely with global sites.
Nice to Haves:
- Design/develop experience working with regulated medical devices.
