In this dynamic role, you'll play a key part in shaping the future of our Global Contract Manufacturing Platform. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you'll collaborate with internal teams, global cross-functional partners, and contract manufacturers to ensure seamless transfers and successful launches of new programs. Your expertise will help identify and mitigate risks, drive consistency in pre-launch New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, and ensure smooth production stabilization while leading optimization projects post-launch. Based on the global support of our Contract Manufacturing partners, this role can be located anywhere in the United States. Travel typically 35% to 55% but varies based on initiatives and incumbent location.

As a Principal Manufacturing Engineer - Global Contract Mfg, you will:

  • Design manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
  • Design arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
  • Design sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
  • Adapt machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
  • Incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
  • Inspect performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Develop manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques.
  • Provide guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Ensure processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
  • Identify design and process optimization opportunities to improve safety, quality and cost of the product and manufacturing line.
  • Drive team accountability for process improvement and implementation, helping to communicate the importance of process development throughout the organization.
  • Proactively identify and call out risks and issues to relevant stakeholders; lead development and delivery of tactical and achievable mitigation and contingency planning.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant medical device manufacturing engineering experience or related field, or advanced degree with 5 years of relevant medical device manufacturing engineering experience or related field.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving capability.
  • Demonstrated ability to work through influence, negotiation and partnering.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience working with or for large contract manufacturing organizations.
  • Test and tester development experience, with hardware and software.
  • Experience working on a range of scale and complexity of product from large capital equipment to small, less complex consumables.
  • Experience working with finished goods suppliers.
  • Experience working on new product launches from early stage design evaluation to production start.
  • Strong understanding of launch process requirements such PDP or equivalent.
  • Ability to travel 35% - 55%.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD): $120,800.00 - $181,200.00 This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
